Kim Yoon Ah, the lead vocalist of the iconic Korean rock band Jaurim, has shared an emotional health update, revealing her continued struggle with congenital immunodeficiency and neurological paralysis.
On March 18, she posted a photo from her hospital bed with the caption “20250314, Auxiliary Battery Day,” referring to her regular treatment sessions. In the picture, Kim Yoon Ah is seen calmly receiving an IV drip, maintaining a lighthearted attitude despite the seriousness of her condition.
Kim Yoon Ah first opened up about her health struggles during a candid appearance on the YouTube channel ‘Sebasi Talk’ last year.
She revealed that after completing Jaurim’s 8th full-length album in 2011, her immune system deteriorated severely, leading to neurological paralysis.
The paralysis impacted multiple senses, including her smell, taste, hearing, and even her ability to feel pain and temperature.
It also affected the muscles in her face, upper body, and vagus nerve, leaving her with lingering aftereffects that still impact her daily life.
While some functions have improved, Kim Yoon Ah admitted that she continues to suffer from slight vocal impairment—a significant challenge for a singer of her caliber.
Despite this, she fights hard to suppress the symptoms and continue performing, sharing that she approaches every project with the mindset that it might be her last.
During a 2023 episode of SBS’s ‘Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny,’ Kim Yoon Ah revealed further details of her condition. She explained that she has congenital immunodeficiency, which leaves her with dangerously low levels of immunoglobulin.

As a result, she must receive monthly IV immunoglobulin (IVIG) injections to strengthen her immune system using antibodies from healthy donors.
Her doctor has repeatedly stressed the importance of proper rest and sleep, warning that overwork and fatigue could instantly trigger another paralysis episode.
Kim Yoon Ah reflected on one such incident when sleep deprivation led to her neurological paralysis, underlining how precarious her health remains.
Despite these ongoing challenges, Kim Yoon Ah continues to persevere. Married to dentist Kim Hyung Kyu since 2006, with whom she shares a son, she remains a beloved figure in the Korean music industry.
Fans and netizens have flooded social media with messages of support and admiration for her resilience, praising her courage in facing such a difficult health battle while continuing to pursue her passion for music.
