The fast-paced world of the idol industry is often marked by sudden transitions, and the J-pop scene is no exception.

Recently, fans of the girl group NANONI were met with the somber news that the group would be officially disbanding.

After nearly five years of activity, the group’s agency, Office Bit, released a formal statement confirming that the members would be parting ways with both the group and the company.

This announcement marks the end of an era for a group that has navigated numerous lineup changes and industry challenges since its inception in early 2021.

The Road to May: Final Performances and Contract Expirations

NANONI originally formed on January 27, 2021, and made their official stage debut shortly after on April 10, 2021.

Throughout their tenure, the group became known for their energetic performances and a rotating roster of talent.

By the time of the disbandment announcement, Mizusino Rizumu stood as the sole founding member, representing the original spirit of the group amidst a sea of change.

The other five members- who joined at various intervals between late 2021 and as recently as May 2024- had integrated into the group’s unique dynamic, making the news of a total dissolution particularly poignant for the fanbase.

According to the official statement posted on March 31, the group’s journey will culminate in a final live performance at the Shibuya Music Hall on May 22.

This event is intended to serve as a farewell gift to the supporters who have followed them through their various iterations.

The agency clarified the logistical details of the split, stating that following this final show, the contracts for all six current members will expire. Rather than seeking new representation under the same umbrella or transitioning into solo roles within the firm, all members have chosen to leave Office Bit entirely.

Protecting the Members During a Sensitive Transition

The disbandment of an idol group is a delicate process, often sparking intense speculation and questioning from the public.

Recognizing this, Office Bit included a specific plea in their announcement to protect the emotional well-being of the artists.

The agency expressed their sincere apologies for the sudden nature of the news and requested that fans refrain from directing invasive questions toward the members regarding the specific reasons behind the disbandment.

The goal, as stated by the agency, is to allow the six performers to focus on their remaining group activities and their final stage without the burden of external pressure or controversy.

In the official notice, the agency remarked on the uncertainty of the future, noting that “at this time, it’s unclear what those activities will be in the near future.”

This transparency highlights the fact that there are currently no confirmed plans for solo debuts, a potential relaunch of the brand, or any immediate entertainment ventures for the departing members.

While the lack of a clear “next step” can be daunting for fans, the focus remains squarely on the May 22 finale.

The agency concluded their message with a note of gratitude, saying they wanted to thank fans for their support and hoped they would continue to cheer for the members until the very end.

As the members prepare to step off the stage at Shibuya Music Hall for the last time, the industry watches to see where these six talented individuals will take their careers next, now freed from the “NANONI” mantle.
