Ivory Aquino is making history as the first-ever Transgender Character In a DCEU Film! Ivory will be playing Alysia Yeoh. The character is going to be the best friend of Leslie Grace’s Batgirl. Aquino gained huge critical acclaim in her role as a transgender activist named Cecilia Chung in the 2017 miniseries titled When We Rise.
Aquino and Yeoh are trans. In the comics, Alysia Yeoh is a bartender who also happens to be the best friend and one-time roommate of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. While we don’t have a release date yet, this newest announcement is going to be a crowd puller for all the right reasons!
The HBO Batgirl Has Gathered An Impressive Cast Ensemble!
This big news was earlier teased by Leslie Grace as she took to social media and shared a picture of the two from what looked like the Batgirl’s set. She tagged co-star Ivory Aquino and even teased the role with a caption that read, Barbara and Alysia. Ivory will be playing Alysia who is Barbara’s roommate and goes on to date her brother, James Gordon Jr. She later comes out as transgender. Alysia is a prolific painter while also working as a bartender. The actress has been a strong representative of the LGBTQ community. Take a look at the post given below.

Fans are already eagerly waiting for the upcoming DCEU project! The wait is going to be ending soon as Batgirl is all set to be released exclusively on HBO Max in 2022. Batgirl will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Leslie Grace and Aquino in Batgirl will be starring alongside an impressive cast ensemble including Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne! Other than that, we will see J.K Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon and Brendan Fraser as Firefly.
Fans are getting to see more about the upcoming Batgirl movie as the lead star Leslie Grace shared a picture that is heavily inspired by the Batgirl comics. By the looks of it, it looks similar to that of the Batgirl of Burnside issue. The filming has already commenced from November onwards in Glasgow, Scotland.
