Based on a novel from the early 2010s the story takes place in a fantasy MMORPG Game called YGGDRASIL. YGGDRASIL was arguably the best game of its time and was revered for its high intractability. During the dozen-plus years it was active several players from all around the world came to the game to try and make a name for themselves and our protagonist was just like one of them. He would go on to form Ainz Ooal Gown which would come to be known as one of the strongest guilds in all of YGGDRASIL.
With over 40 members in the guild during its prime Ainz Ooal Gown was a force to be reckoned with and just like for the game, the years had not been kind to the Guild. Ainz Ooal Gown has been reduced to but a mere fraction of its former glory only retaining about 10% of its guild members. Now that the game was coming to an end Momonga invited what’s left of his guild to spend some time together for old time’s sake but only one person bothered to take him up on his offer.
As the game’s servers turned off for the last time Momonga waited patiently to be kicked off the game. Even after the scheduled time for termination was over nothing had changed. As time went by Momonga started to notice things. For starters, the logout option is not gone and the NPCs started acting weird. He soon realizes that he and the rest of the game have been transported to a mysterious new world. The Shift has caused all the NPCs to become actual humans and Momonga became an actual Lich.
The Story progresses as Momonga changes his name to Ainz Ooal Gown to contact other players who have become stuck like him. Ainz creates a new nation in the “New World” which he wants to make a haven for all races to coexist. Some want to stand in his way. His enemies soon come to regret thinking they could take on the strongest sorcerer on the planet with their meager strength. The story is similar to “The Executed Sage Who Was Reincarnated As A Lich And Started An All-Out War” but with a less darker tone.

Overlord Light Novel Recap
The Half-Elf Gon-Kin Arc came to an end with the last volume. Since it was larger than usual the arc was split into two consecutive volumes. The Slane Theocracy is having a hard time keeping up with Ainz and his Sorcerer Kingdom. They realize that they cannot wage war on two fronts. They will be retreating from the Dragon Kingdom and focus all their might on defense. Some were even considering giving up entirely. While all this is going on Ainz and her daughters Aura and Mare are about to go on vacation.
Ainz wants his children to develop into well-rounded adults and for that he wants them to have friends and socialize. From the elves he liberated from Workers Invasion, he found the location of Elf Villages and the presence of Dark Elves. They developed a plan to gain the trust of the Dark Elves so that they would be more open to their intrusion. Ainz’s plan worked flawlessly and his children can now make friends they can play with and as a father, he could not be happier.
However, his happiness was short-lived. He caught wind that the Theocracy was invading the capital. Though he could care less he didn’t want the treasures of the Elf Kingdom to be lost. He heads to the castle with Aura and Mare and runs into the Decem Hougan the Elf King. Decem in his ever-present urge to produce strong offspring ordered the duo to sire his child. This enraged Ainz and the duo fought. Decem was defeated so badly that he tried to escape only for Antilene who was waiting for him to finish the job.
