Kakegurui Twin is a manga which is written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki. It also goes by the name of Kakegurui Futago, Kakeguri Futago Twins, and Compulsive Gambler Twin.
This is a prequel manga to the manga titled Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, which is also written by Kawamoto but illustrated by Tōru Naomura. Though prequels are not always a hit, this one turned out to be quite different. Kakegurui Twin puts a unique perspective on the life of Mary Saotome before the events of Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler.
The anime and manga have a huge fan base as it is well known for their witty scenes. Fans are drawn in by the innovative and exciting gambling plays. It is also quite interesting to see the characters one-up each other with their intelligence. Both the original series along with the spin-off has garnered a lot of attention from readers. The spin-off started to be serialized in publisher Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine in September 2015 and it has thirteen tankōbon volumes.
Kakegurui Twin Plot
The setting for story of the spin-off manga takes place before the arrival of the very popular character, Yumeko Jabami, at the Hyakkaou Private Academy. Mary Saotome is the main protagonist of the series, and it follows her story before the events of the main manga.
It is strange to see Mary as an ordinary girl, as fans were previously introduced to her as a gambling addict. She comes from a respectable family and passes the examination to join the elite school of Hyakkaou Private Academy.
She comes across the school’s gambling system and quickly begins to adapt to it. This is the trigger that causes her to change and become the Mary that we know. The series revolves around her journey of becoming one of the top dogs at school through various games and challenges that Mary participates in.
It is interesting for the readers to know about the different gambling games and their final outcomes of them. The stakes are high in most of them, and one mistake can put Mary at the very bottom. The anticipation and excitement of all the games keep the readers at the tip of their toes. Unique characters and an interesting plot are the focus of the series.
