“Claim to Fame” Season 3 has officially started, promising more of the competition’s excitement and talent.
It on July 10, with fans already deeply engaged in guessing the identities of the contestants and their celebrity relatives. Co-hosted by Kevin and Franklin Jonas, the show features 12 contestants, each with a famous relative.
Set in a communal filming environment, contestants must unravel each other’s identities while safeguarding their own secrets.
During filming, “Claim to Fame” contestants are isolated from the outside world, making it challenging to research each other.
Instead, they rely on games and a clue board within the house to uncover identities. At the end of each episode, two contestants face off in a guess-off, with one being eliminated.
Despite elimination, contestants do not immediately leave but remain in the competition under specific rules outlined by executive producers Eric Detwiler and Scott Teti, as discussed in an interview.
Rules of the Guess Off on Claim to Fame?
At the end of each episode of “Claim to Fame,” a crucial guess-off occurs between two contestants, where one is eliminated based on their ability to correctly identify their opponent’s celebrity relative.
The guesser is chosen from the bottom two cast members of that week’s game and is decided upon by the remaining contestants.
This moment is pivotal as the guesser selects whom they believe has a famous relative, utilizing all the sleuthing and clues gathered throughout the competition.
In the guess-off of “Claim to Fame,” contestants must be absolutely certain about the identity and correct pronunciation of their opponent’s celebrity relative.
This requirement adds an extra layer of challenge and precision to the competition, ensuring that contestants rely on accurate information and thorough sleuthing to make their guesses.
“They have one shot to say the name correctly — in its entirety and with the correct pronunciation — or they will be the one going home,” Detwiler and Teti told in an email interview.
In “Claim to Fame,” precision in identifying celebrity relatives is crucial, as seen in Season 2 with Gabe’s dilemma over Neil deGrasse Tyson’s name.
The rules dictate that contestants must correctly state the celebrity’s name and its pronunciation; any mistake could lead to their elimination, as explained by Detwiler and Teti.
Moreover, contestants may have connections to multiple celebrities, but they can only select one as their relative for the game.
This rule adds complexity, as demonstrated by Karsyn in Season 2, who chose Dale Earnhardt Jr. as her relative despite being Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s granddaughter.
If someone had guessed Dale Earnhardt Sr. instead, they would have faced elimination, highlighting the importance of accurate deduction and strategic gameplay in the competition.
What Happens When Claim to Fame Contestants Are Eliminated?
In “Claim to Fame,” contestants must accurately identify their opponent’s celebrity relative during a critical guess-off at the end of each episode. Precision in both naming and pronunciation is essential, as any mistake could lead to their elimination.
Additionally, contestants may have connections to multiple celebrities but can only choose one as their relative for the game, adding a layer of strategy and complexity to the competition.
“They stay in a hotel until the finale, when they return to the house for one final bit of gameplay,” Detwiler and Teti revealed.
Kevin Jonas previously told that that rule specifically was the most surprising for him.
“The biggest of the rules was the contestants couldn’t leave! So they really had to keep up their cover stories for a very long time,” he explained.
“It was less about the rules and more about the challenge of keeping your story straight.”
