In 2007 Ashley Graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, a public college in New York City. After that, she worked for five years as a fashion designer at a private startup.

Ashley is the first woman who won Ink Master Season 8. In a male-dominated category and a show like Ink Master, it was a shock and iconic moment for the audience. The tattoo industry has comparatively fewer women artists than men. Earlier, if there was a woman doing tattoos and there was a man doing tattoos, people would preferably go to a man.
However, the reality show, Ink Master allowed everyone to participate and till the eighth season, no woman was the winner. For the finale, Ashley showed off her 24 hr chest tattoo. This chest piece tattoo helped her grab the ultimate title, Ink Master. The winning moment was an encouragement for the women tattoo artists.
After winning the show, Ryan Ashley wrote that she felt there was a close race between the top 3 and a controversial decision did happen but according to her, winning the title cannot define that she is the best. She further wrote that Gian (runner-up) should have won the title and Kelly too because none is a bad artist.
