The plot of If Only, a Spanish romantic drama series available on Netflix, centers on Emma, a thirty-year-old woman trapped in an uninteresting marriage to Nando, with whom she shares twins.

She can’t stop thinking about how her life would have turned out differently if she had refused to say yes to him. She had the option of finishing college, launching her company, or choosing a completely new course. Ever since she announced her divorce, Emma has been thinking back on her past a lot.
Emma asks herself, quite seriously, why she consented to marry Nando when she had so much to give her parents and herself. Isa, Emma’s closest friend, is her rock; she gives her a shoulder to weep on and supports her choice to leave Nando.
The news and Emma’s children are always discussing the red moon, sometimes known as the blood moon. Emma is upset and furious as she makes her way to dinner with Nando’s pals; she suddenly stops in front of a runner. Emma is happy to see her father beside her mother, enjoying each other’s company at this age, even though their lives have separated by ten years.
Emma is relieved that her parents support her choice to refuse to wed Nando. Since the time leap, Emma has decided to spend as much time as possible with her parents because she knows that her father will eventually depart. She launched her advertising agency, which quickly rose to the top of Spain’s list of cutting-edge businesses.
Although Emma is afraid, she is relieved that her parents, friend Deme, and his boyfriend are nearby. Emma is currently experiencing her greatest moment in her endeavor with Alfredo and Ruben. Emma finds Ruben’s seedy past fascinating and begins to pursue him after he repeatedly comes across as such.
Ruben says he would prefer to be with her when the timing is appropriate and declines her advances. However, Emma can’t get her mind off the idea that she wants her children back. She will stop at nothing to be in Nando and Isa’s lives or to force Nando to have sex with her to conceive.
Emma’s greatest lifelong misses are Mia and Mario. She feels that she is only alive because of them. However, Emma has doubts about Nando’s motivations after learning that he is having an extramarital affair with his ex-girlfriend. Ruben creates a beautiful scene for Emma’s 30th birthday celebration. Emma quickly recalls how Nando overlooked her thirty-first birthday.
Emma lets Ruben have it that she can’t have an intimate relationship with him and is eager to have her kids back. Although Emma finds Ruben attractive, she resists the urge because she wants to find a way to bring Mia and Mario back into her life. Emma is content both materially and psychologically, yet she can’t help but think of her twins and their influence on her life.
After being married to Nando, Isa soon tells Emma that she is expecting twins, much to Emma’s sorrow. She attempts to get involved in Isa and Nando’s lives in the hopes that it will facilitate her relationship with the children. Soon after, Ruben vanishes, and it is discovered during a raid on her office that he is employed by state intelligence, with the government now supporting him because of the knowledge he possesses.
The news that Ruben has suddenly vanished from Emma’s life hurts her. Although she feels lost and powerless, Isa’s pregnancy diverts her attention from Ruben. Emma makes every effort to maintain her father’s health, knowing that he won’t live past December 31st, 2016.
She also advises her mother to refrain from engaging in any sexual activity with her father to prevent unintentional attacks or strokes. Later in the episode, it is revealed that Emma’s father passed away on New Year’s Eve of 2016, and Emma has not been in the right frame of mind ever since. Because her father is the source of her greatest strength, Emma is close to him and wants to spend as much time as possible with him.
He takes care to express his pride in her and his support for every choice she makes. She goes above and beyond to keep her father well and hopes that he lives past December 31, 2016, since she finds strength in his unwavering presence.
Emma learns that Isa’s delivery will be difficult and that she may not survive the birth process along with the babies when she rushes to the hospital with her parents to be with her when she goes into labor. Emma experiences a kind of limbo when her father has a heart attack at the same time, during which she sees visions from the future.
She imagines Nando by her side while she lies asleep on the hospital bed. When the story returns to the present, it becomes clear that Emma is aware of Nando’s extramarital romance with Isa. She experiences several emotional storms.
Emma begins speaking to Nando, Isa, and Deme at the restaurant in a confused manner. When they got her to the hospital, they found that she had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. When she spent twenty days in a coma, she saw the ten-year time jump.
Twenty days later, Emma wakes up and proceeds with her divorce preparations. They tell her that Ruben is not a part of their lives. He is merely a Spanish actor that Emma repeatedly viewed in theatres. Emma’s coma caused her memories to jumble together uncontrollably.
Even after the announcement of her divorce, she couldn’t stop wondering what would have happened if she had turned down Nando. This idea consumed her and sent her into a spiral of possibilities involving both literary characters and real-life individuals who shared cinematic qualities with her.
Emma suffered a great deal of trauma upon learning about Nando’s adultery. Emma was utterly devastated, and a mental collapse followed by a hemorrhage was caused by an emotional storm like this one. Emma gets well quickly and files for divorce.
Emma finds herself drawn to the Spanish actor, decides to approach him, and follows him around on his jogging track. Emma is now more composed because her 20 days in the coma helped her come to some decisions regarding the future of her life.
She retrieves her baby and lets go of Nando. Emma is happy with her life choices right now. The screenplay for “If Only” encountered problems since a time travel narrative must correctly connect the dots, or the viewers will eventually lose interest in the tale.
Because several plot details were not adequately explained, there were times when “If Only” did not make sense. Only Megan Montaner’s hilarious portrayal of Emma and her comedy could keep the program running. You will find the show to be entertaining and have enough interest to watch it all in one sitting.
Fortunately, each episode lasts between thirty and forty-seven minutes, which is just long enough to keep the show engaging. The time-travel comedy-drama “If Only” is passable, if not dull.
