About UniteUp!
Unlike many anime that are currently ongoing which are based on the original source of the manga or light novel, UniteUp! comes up straight from the original adaption thanks to the Clover Works Studios. In fact, UniteUp! is a mix-media project by Sony Music Entertainment Japan that started with a Youtube channel that brings the various artists and promotes their songs.
If you are into J-pop or listening to new songs from various artists, you should definitely check out the Youtube Channel of UniteUp! As for the anime, as mentioned earlier, it is an ONA, original net animation that brings a whole new story of the adventure of an idol.
The anime adaptation for UniteUp! was announced last September during an Online Fest held by Aniplex. As mentioned earlier, the anime adaptation is being brought to us by Clover Studios with Shin’ichiro Ushijima directing the series.
The other staff involved in the making of this anime are Rino Yamazaki for the scripts, Majiro designing the characters, Asami Komatsu and Yurie Hama serving as animation directors and lastly, we have Yuki Hayashi composing the Music. As for the plot of the anime, we will be following a story of a high schooler named Akira Kiyoshe.
The high schooler Akira Kiyoshe has always loved to sing and dance and thanks to his good looks, he gets recruited by an agency called sMiLea production to work on his talents. Surprisingly the agency is formed by an idol group known as “Anela” who were legendary at their time but went into retirement at the peak of their stardom.
In this agency, Akira meets up with Chigiri and Naeo who are together by the agency to form an idol group. Thus we follow the adventure of the three young boys chasing stardom and becoming idols alongside other idol groups of the same agency called “LEGIT” and “JAXX/JAXX”. This anime is perfect for huge idol fans who’d like to see more into daily life and the struggle behind becoming a famous idol.
Previously on UniteUp!
In the last episode of UniteUp!, which was episode 3 of UniteUp! we saw the new Akira trying to get an autograph of Daiki from the LEGIT idol group of his sister. Upon going to the agency, Akira also learns that Daiki is from his same school and is excited about it but the latter’s personality is very rough and he asks Akira to never speak to him in school.
After this small banter, we see that Akira, Naoe, and Chigiri are learning about the new ways of becoming an idol and they are informed that should observe the LEGIT upcoming live performance in person. The group is excited about the live performance as they have never seen one in person.
Speaking of the LEGIT idol group, we see that in the next room, Daiki and Eishro of the LEGIT are having an argument while practicing for the upcoming live performance. Since Daiki wants to perform the group with his dance moves, Eishori isn’t getting along with the idea and Daiki ends up leaving and soon Eishiro leaves as well.
Akira, Naoe, and Chigiri go around the town and they end up going to the restaurant where Naoe works part-time. They end up meeting with Eishori, who is eating for free again so the owner ends up putting his form Naoe salary. Akira asks the reason why Eishori wants to be an idol, and Eishori informs him that it is because his end goal is to become a president as they have the most authority.
Thus he is becoming an idol first to gather a following and stardom and then become a president. He also informs them about why he and Daiki cannot get along because of the latter’s selfish personality. But Akira remembers a quote from his favorite anime about how to trust your friends and which makes Eishiro rethinking about his argument with Daiki.
In the flashback, we learn that Daiki works really hard and has a secret place where they had formed their friendship and learn together about each other’s dreams and goals. In the present, Eishiro finds Daiki at his practicing spot and decides to follow his attempt on the dance move but the rest of the things will be his authority.
Akira, Naoe, and Chigiri go to the live concert of LEGIT where Akira is really astounded by the performance and realizes how hard Akira works. After the concert, Akira manages to get an autograph from Daiki which he promises to hang on the wall in his room.
