Crime dramas never get old. There is almost nothing better than getting emotionally invested in the characters and mysteries of a good crime drama series. One such American crime drama-limited TV series is The Thing About Pam, which premiered on March 8th, 2022. The series follows the involvement of Pam Hupp in the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria. Jenny Klein serves as the showrunner for the series and is based on coverage from Dateline NBC. The show is also titled after the Dateline podcast of the same name. Filming for the show took place in New Orleans, and it has received mixed reviews from critics.
The series stars Renee Zellweger, Josh Duhamel, Judy Greer, Gideon Adlon, Sean Bridgers, Susanne Spoke, Mac Brandt, Katy Mixon, and Glenn Fleshler. They play Pam Hupp, Joel Schwartz, Leah Askey, Mariah Day, Mark Hupp, Janet, Detective McCarrick, Betsy Faria, and Russ Faria. Despite the mixed reviews, we think the first episode was quite engaging.

Plot
As the name suggests, The Thing About Pam’s storyline revolves around Pam Hupp. The show is based on the events of the 2011 Betsy Faria murder case. The crime set off a chain of events that would eventually expose a diabolical scheme deeply involving Pam Hupp when Russ’ conviction was overturned. Pam Hupp was a self-appointment businesswoman who was arrested for the murder of Betsy Faria. Joel Schwartz was the defense attorney for Russ Faria, and Leah Askey was the Lincoln County prosecutor who tried Russ Faria twice for his wife’s murder. Mariah Day is Betsy and Russ’ 17-year-old daughter, and Mark Hupp was Pam’s husband. Janet, Betsy’s mother, also plays an important role in the story, and so does the detective assigned to the case, Detective McCarrick. Dateline journalist Keith Morrison also provides the show’s narration.
The show begins on December 27th, 2011, in Troy, Missouri. Betsy Faria, a cancer patient, was found murdered in her home. Russ, her husband, was immediately the prime suspect in the eyes of the police. Pam Hupp, a self-appointed businesswoman, was the last person to see Betsy that night after insisting on driving her home. A few hours before Betsy was discovered, Pam made several alibis by strategically calling her husband, Mark, and Betsy’s mother, Janet. Pam awkwardly tries to make the police suspicious of Russ while he tells the police that Pam was good friends with Betsy. However, Pam’s account of dropping off Betsy at her home includes several contradictions, and she tells Janet that the police are holding Russ at the station. The show has only released its first episode till now, and we cannot wait to see how the story unfolds next.

NBC News Studios was launched to create documentary-style content after Peacock Productions was shut down. When the company revealed a partnership with Blumhouse Television, the series was announced in May 2020. The show was given a six-episode order, with Zellweger joining the cast and the production as an executive producer, in February 2021. The Thing About Pam premiered on NBC on March 8th, 2022, in the US. The series will air weekly at 10 pm ET/PT on Tuesdays for five more weeks, as it is a six episodes series. New episodes of the show will be available on Peacock every Wednesday and Hulu as well.

For viewers in the UK, we have some good and some bad news. The Thing About Pam is expected to hit Sky, either through Peacock or on Sky TV. However, the bad news is that no release date is official yet.
