The Ravages of Time is a new Historical Chinese Anime produced by Bilibili and iDreamSky, a Chinese company known for publishing games. The anime made its debut on April 29, 2023, and has since released a total of 9 episodes out of the expected 16 episodes. With each episode airing once a week, The Ravages of Time is an animated version of a manhua written by Chan Mao under the same title.
The story of The Ravages of Time is one that is in relation to Chinese History and is heavily influenced by a Chinese fiction novel titled Romance of the Three Kingdoms written by Luo Guanzhong. The Ravages of Time will narrate the events that took place between the three kingdoms – Wei, Shu, and Wu.
Huo Feng Liao Yuan, which translates to Ablaze Phoenix Soaring Over the Battlefield, is the other title of The Ravages of Time and has garnered much attention since its release due to being an animated version of a popular manhua series. Synopsis
In The Ravages of Time, Feng and Liao Yuan, the two main characters in the story, narrate this historical period and give an insight into what took place during the later end of the Han dynasty, as Liao Yuan’s friendship with Sima Yi was ultimately drifted apart due to their involvement in the war. The two of them were great friends and were known to be prosperous in their respective fields and the ray of hope for their clans.
Liao Yuan and Sima Yi had joined hands to witness and participate in the downfall of Dong Zhuo, a powerful military general at that time. Sima Yi’s clan had a group of assassins called the Handicapped Warriors, but due to his personal circumstances, he joined forces with the Cao Cao clan and worked under them.
Liao Yuan, on the other hand, adopted a new identity under the name Zhao Yun and served leader Liu Bei to help out his friend in assassinating Dong Zhuao. However, having come from different military bases, they were forced to fight against each other. Along with Liao Yuan and Sima Yi, the Handicapped Warriors too will play a vital role in the defeat of General Zhuao.

The prosperous Chinese Han Dynasty finally collapsed 2000 years ago. After its fall, three nations—Wei, Shu, and Wu emerged as heroes rose, and fell. Many Historians referred to this as the period of the Three Kingdoms. As of now, the anime is yet to branch out to other streaming platforms and hence can only be accessed through Bilibili.
