Adapted from the works of Um Se Yoon, The Killing Vote is another promising mystery thriller from SBS that will start airing its episodes soon. With Park Hae Jin, Park Sung Woong, and Lim Ji Yeon as the main leads, the drama will finally premiere on August 10th, 2023.
Not all, but most people in power are seen indulging in corrupt politics once in a while without any consequences. However, things can soon escalate, and an innocent civilian could end up paying the price for what these lousy criminals do. What’s more frustrating is that they’re also able to bypass all strict punishments and live as if nothing happened.
This is what “The Killing Vote” revolves around, the concept of providing justice when the government fails to do it. Whenever a person in power escapes their punishment, every citizen that’s an adult receives a text message that asks them to vote on whether the criminal should be left alive or be granted punishment through death.
The Dog Mask killer then live streams themselves, killing the person who should have been in jail. Although the public mostly supports what they do, the police launch a full investigation to uncover the identity behind this infamous online persona.
The Killing Vote: About The Show
The cast of The Killing Vote consists of Park Hae Jin in the role of Kim Moo Chan, Park Sung Woong as Kwon Seok Joo, Lim Ji Yeon plays the role of Joo Hyun, Kim Yoo Mi stars as Min Ji Young, Shin Jung Keun plays Choi Jin Soo and Kim Kwon portrays the character Lee Min Soo.
Kim Moo Chan works in the Investigation Department of the Southern Police Agency, and that’s how he gets to know about a killer named “Dog Mask/ Gaetal,” who is notorious for killing corrupt people through a voting system. After sending the text, they ask every adult to vote on the outcome.
The virtual persona would then go ahead and kill the corrupt person by giving them a “true capital punishment,” just as the votes had asked for. Kwon Seok Joo is a well-known scholar in his locality who became famous after killing his daughter’s rapist. However, Keon Seok Joo did not run away and handed himself over to the police.
Another main protagonist is Joo Hyun, a police officer who is a part of the cybersecurity department. Her being involved in Dog Mask’s case makes sense, as Dog Mask is a mostly virtual persona. All these three characters from different walks of life will be somehow connecting through this new killer, “Gaetal.”
What gives Dog Mask their name is the mask they wear while approaching their next victim. As cute as the puppy mask looks, there hides a deeply troubled person underneath it, who seems to be operating on the wishes of the general public. The choice of whether the seemingly innocent person should be killed or left alive simply lies in the replies.
