There’s a thin line between being a sustainable close-knit community & a full-blown secret cult. Discovery’s latest docu-reality The Garden: Commune or Cult hopes to explain the difference between the two while also giving an insight into how these communities work without having any leader.
A member of The Garden happened to post a TikTok about the community which went viral, bringing out several dark rumors about the place being nothing more than a secret cult. To clear all these allegations and provide a look into their everyday lives, the members of The Garden have opened their doors to the curious documentary crew.
This six-part series will feature new potential members of The Garden being welcomed by the community. While their doors might be open to anyone, the residents of The Garden do have a voting system they use at times to judge if the new person is a valuable addition to the community or not.
We’ll be seeing interesting personalities like Tyler, Oak, Tisheila, and many others who’ve come to The Garden in hopes of becoming permanent residents of this place. As they adjust to the secluded, slow-living lifestyle, these newcomers will get first-hand experience of living in this cult-like place.
The Garden Commune or Cult: About The Show
The Garden was founded as a leaderless community by like-minded people who all wanted to ditch city living for a more calming, slow-paced life in the Southern regions of America. If it weren’t for the viral TikTok that came out of The Garden a while ago, so many people wouldn’t have been introduced to this cozy commune.
Free from any unnecessary pressures of the modern world, The Garden operates solely on simple principles that have been placed by its members. Any new person willing to join a place like The Garden would have to serve an initiation period, where the members test whether they have the patience and skill it takes to live off-the-grid.
This initiation period has been the reason why so many people failed to last even a week at this Place. Only a chosen few who are cooperative and bring something to the table are selected to become a resident of The Garden for good.
Discovery’s documentary about The Garden will showcase the welcoming and start of initiation period of newcomers to the community.
This includes a trucker named Tyler, who wants to prepare himself for the apocalypse, Oak, a 9 to 5 worker who needs a change of scenery, and many others like them who are looking to give off-the-grid living a shot.
With a total of 10 days at their hand, Tyler and the others would have to prove themselves as useful people for The Garden and find out whether The Garden’s a secret cult that hides in the skin of a commune.
