Superbad is a 2007 comedy produced by Judd Apatow and written by Seth Rogen, starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, playing two horny, irresponsible teenagers as they’re about to finish high school and about to start college. Since they don’t want to start off college dull, they decided to start partying, acting bad, drinking, and trying to have sex. The results are hilarious in a comedy that marked one of the first films in which Apatow marked his brand and later became a stepping stone for other actors and actresses like Bill Hader, Emma Stone, and Jonah Hill. Now, without any further ado, let’s take a look at this film.
Superbad Plot
Seniors in high school, Seth and Evan have been great friends since they were young. They are about to depart for various colleges. Jules extends an invitation to Seth to attend a party at her home that evening when they are paired together in home economics class. When their pal Fogell confesses his intentions to get a fake ID, Seth assures her that he will use the money she provides him to purchase booze for the party. When Evan runs into Becca, who is his love interest, he offers to fetch her a particular bottle of vodka for the celebration.
“I’m McLovin”
Fogell manages to purchase the alcohol despite the fact that his bogus ID merely had the name “McLovin,” but is suddenly knocked out by a robber. Seth and Evan think Fogell is being detained when policemen Slater and Michaels show up. Actually, the police have consented to drive him to the party. Seth is struck by a car outside. The driver, Francis, offers to transport Seth and Evan to another party where they may get alcohol in exchange for them not notifying the cops. Slater and Michaels accompany Fogell on a ride-along while they also develop a friendship with him. Despite being on duty, they begin to consume alcohol, improperly utilize their sirens, and shoot at a stop sign.
Drunk Shenanigans
Seth dances with a drunk Jacinda at the party while filling bottles of laundry detergent from the basement with booze he finds in the fridge. She gives him menstrual blood on his leg, and some cocaine-addled men make Evan sing “These Eyes” for them. The host confronts Seth as he is about to depart for dancing with his fiance. Jacinda calls the police, a fight breaks out, and Seth and Evan flee. While Evan and Seth are bickering about Seth attending a different college, the police cruiser piloted by Slater and Michaels strikes Seth again. They intend to arrest them, but when Fogell exits the vehicle, Evan flees, and Seth and Fogell make off with the alcohol. All three eventually arrive at Jules’ gathering.
Second Thoughts
When Fogell shows up at the party, he unintentionally confesses that he and Evan will dorm together in college, making Seth feel worse about Evan. Seth is well-liked for his nighttime tales. Evan respects Becca too much to let her have sex with him while intoxicated, even though Becca wants to. As Nicola is being impressed, Fogell walks upstairs to have sex with her. Jules refuses Seth’s inebriated advances for a kiss because she doesn’t drink and doesn’t want him anyway. He collapses, headbutting her unintentionally and leaving her with a black eye, thinking he has destroyed all hope of them ever connecting.
Cops
Michaels and Slater break up the party. Seth awakens and makes his getaway while carrying an inebriated Evan. Fogell and Nicola are engaged in sexual activity when Slater interrupts them, leading Nicola to flee. Officer Slater is upset with Fogell for leaving them, but Michaels points out that they had just interrupted him. They then say sorry, make up, and admit they had known that Fogell was not 25 as his ID claimed. They had played along because they wanted to demonstrate those police officers could also have fun. To make amends, they stage Fogell’s arrest outside to make him appear “badass.” They rekindle their friendship before Fogell shoots their car with Slater’s gun while they set their car on fire with a Molotov cocktail.
The Conclusion
Evan reveals he does not want to room with Fogell at college the following year but is terrified to live with strangers when Seth and Evan return to Evan’s. They make amends to one another before making up. They meet Jules and Becca in the mall the following day while they are there. After Becca and Seth both express regret for their inebriated actions the night before, the lads pair off with the girls. While Evan and Becca buy blankets to replace the one Jules wrecked by puking on, Seth brings Jules to get makeup for her black eye.
