The romantic comedy anime Girlfriend, Girlfriend has returned with Season 2, debuting as part of the fall lineup. The prequel of the anime series was quite a hit among the viewers.
It received mixed reviews from the viewers, with good viewership numbers. The premise of the anime, which revolves around the protagonist’s comedic and outlandish decision-making, makes make the viewers laugh due to its absurd yet entertaining takes.
Despite its lack of logical coherence, the show’s quirky characters and their irrational choices makes the anime very entertaining and exciting.
Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2 is produced by the SynergySP Studio and is adapted from the manga of the same name. While the previous season covered the initial half of the manga, Season 2 is set to continue the storyline from volume 5 onwards.
The series features an opening theme by Hikari Kodama and an ending theme performed by Claris. The protagonist, Naoya Mukai, is perceived as a studious yet somewhat foolish student.
Despite being in a relationship with Saki, it is revealed that Naoya is also romantically involved with his classmate, Nagisa Minase.
Saki’s best friend, Shino Kiryuu, cannot tolerate Naoya’s two-timing antics, and believes that such infidelity is unacceptable in a relationship and that her best friend deserves better than someone like Naoya.
About Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2
Shino Kiryuu discovers that Naoya isn’t just dating Saki but is also involved with his classmate Nagisa, and is even being courted by Rika Hoshizaki, a girl from a different class.
Shino had always found Naoya somewhat peculiar but had believed him to be an honest person. The revelation that Naoya had developed feelings for someone other than Saki was hard for her to accept, especially because she couldn’t abandon her own feelings.
She had been holding back due to Saki, her best friend, being in a relationship with Naoya. Saki requested Shino’s assistance in helping Nagisa prepare for her upcoming exams as the summer break was approaching, and they had plans to attend festivals and watch fireworks on the beach.
They all wanted to participate in various events together before the break. While Naoya had intended to spend all his savings during the summer break, they still had to get through their exams before the break began.
However, the challenge was that failing three end-term exams would require them to attend remedial classes every day, potentially canceling their summer break.
While Saki was confident enough not to fail three exams, Nagisa was struggling and failing all her exams. Neglecting her studies, Nagisa was preoccupied with cooking and enjoying her time with Naoya.
Naoya and Saki were unable to assist Nagisa with her studies, prompting them to seek Shino’s help in preparing Nagisa for her exams, ensuring they could all enjoy their summer break together.
