Dark Gathering is one of the supernatural horror anime from this summer 2023 season line-up. The anime is produced by OLM Studio, which is very popular among fans for its work in Komi Can’t Communicate.
It had been a long time since fans got an anime adaptation of a horror manga, so Dark Gathering comes as a treat for anime fans. The anime is based on the 2019 manga of the same name by author Kenichi Kondou; if you have read the manga, then we can only guess how excited you are for the anime adaptation.
If you still have not picked up the manga, then you’ve signed up for a thrilling surprise. Dark Gathering follows the story of high school student Keitarou Gentouga, a psychic who was in junior high; he went through a spiritual injury.
He got introduced to Eiko Houzuki’s cousin, Yayoi Houzuki because Keitarou took charge of tutoring Yayoi for his part-time job. But instead of study sessions, Yayoi introduced Keitarou to spiritual spots.
At one point, Keitarou felt like he was drifting apart from his goal, and he could not figure out if he would ever move on from the other side of the world. Dark Gathering will introduce the viewers to three characters and their stories as they go on to hunt ghosts and spirits in haunted places, with Yayoi being their lead member. So if you are a fan of horror anime, then Dark Gathering might be the right pick for you this season.
About Dark Gathering
Freshman Keitarou Gentouga was the top student in his year and got selected as the class representative to give the year’s speech. He just wanted to lead a normal life, but he had a childhood friend named Eiko Houzuki, who was far from normal.
Eiko Houzuki had a problem. Whenever she took her picture, it turned into a ghost picture, so she could never manage to take her pictures. Keitarou had a nasty encounter with a ghost back in junior high, and one of his friends got involved in it.
Keitarou promised not to leave his room for 2 years. After finally taking a step to move forward with his life, Keitarou enrolled himself in school, but those two years made Keitarou incapable of communicating with other people.
But on his bad days, Eiko always stood by his side and supported him with her motivating spirit. Keitarou is finally getting to live a normal life, but things turn weird when he takes up a part-time job to tutor Eiko’s suspicious cousin, who just moved into her house.
Even though he learned that the cousin was a prodigy, she still needed a tutor for some unknown reason. After taking one look at Eiko’s cousin, Keitarou figured out that he did not just sign up for a tutoring session but something more than that.
But nothing could beat the horror when Keitarou entered Eiko’s cousin’s room and found out she was not a normal kid. The kid’s room was pitch dark and full of voodoo dolls and ghostly stuff. Keitarou should have said goodbye to his job, but instead, he and Eiko, and the cousin went on ghostly adventures.
