CGI has recently seen a boom in the entertainment industry, and Netflix’s latest dance competition series Dance Monsters is a great example of just how far CGI can go. Filled with fun and exciting dances, this show is one of its kind and can be regarded as the pioneer of its genre.
All the performances we’ll be seeing animated on stage are done by real people, connected with various sensors that record each of their moves and present it to us. The concept is to create a safe space for these dancers who possess amazing skills but are hesitant to perform in front of a larger audience.
The Masked Singer is another show that follows a similar theme but doesn’t utilize any animations or CGI. As each person will be eliminated, we’ll be able to see their story and what led to their insecurities coming into existence.
Dance Monsters is known to be filmed in Hampshire, England, and is produced by Netflix along with Lime Pictures. It will feature around 15 contestants, all from different walks of life. What they share in common is the passion to showcase their skills without being influenced by stereotypes.
Dance Monsters: The Format
Besides having an unconventional concept, the show also has a unique format, that utilizes various rounds and dance-offs to eliminate the performers in each episode. It will first start with round one between the 15 contestants. They’ll compete in three groups, each of five. Two of the low performers from a single group will be asked to perform a solo. The one whose solo performance fails to meet the mark gets eliminated.
After round 1, there will be 12 remaining contestants, who will compete in round 2 in 2 groups. Each group will have about 6 members. This time though, 2 contestants will be eliminated. One will be removed right after the first performance while the other will be removed after a dance-off takes place between the two bottom performers.

Round 3 begins with 8 contestants, who’ll be paired up in random order. These pairs will have to perform well together, but if they fail to do so, they might just end up being chosen for elimination. Only 4 contestants will move forward and enter the quarter-finals. The low performers will have to prove their talents by performing solo dances this time.
Solo Dances are what make the elimination process clearer, and this will be continued until only one contestant remains, who’ll be taking home $250,000. Throughout these rounds, the eliminated contestants will come onto the stage and reveal their identities. They’ll also give an insight into their lives before they leave the show.
