Most anime adaptations of RPG mobile games don’t usually live up to have great storylines, but Arknights by Yostar Pictures is an exception. Based on the mobile game by Hypergryph, this action-filled fantasy series follows the story of Planet Terra, known for inhabiting a unique species of people.
Exhibiting Kemonomimi features, the people of Terra share characteristics like that of certain animals or creatures from myths and legends.
However, their planet is now in its dystopic, post-apocalyptic state. Moreover, a strange but powerful element called Originium is left behind by all kinds of natural disasters.
While Originium can allow those who come in contact with it to form magical powers called “Arts,” it also infects them with a progressive and fatal disease called Oripathy. Due to it being highly contagious, those who contract it are shunned and isolated from the rest of the people.
The Reunion is a group of people affected by Originium that hope to fight against this discrimination and demand equal treatment from the government through violent ways.
The Rhodes Island, on the other hand, is a group that shares the same goals but is non-violent and is a pharmaceutical, self-defense organization.
We see Arknights through the perspective of Doctor, a leader who commands operators of Rhodes Island. Throughout the game and the anime, we see Rhodes Island coming across all kinds of enemies from the Reunion and the despotic governments.
Arknights: Prelude To Dawn Season 1: Recap
The first few episodes of Arknights: Prelude to Dawn introduced us to what Rhodes Island is and its main objectives. We wake up as Doctor, the head strategist of this pharmaceutical company.
Amiya is the leader and realizes that Doctor now suffers from Amnesia. However, the Doctor helps them save a mother and child from the hands of the violent Reunion.
The mother refuses to receive any help from Amiya since she suffers from Oripathy. What this woman and most of the people of Terra don’t know is that Oripathy is not physically contagious. The widespread hate against them is the reason why Reunion exists in the first place.
Rhodes Island puts a lot of effort into researching a cure for Oripathy, which they believe is the solution to the chaos that now exists on Terra.
Residents of Ursus are told by the government that they have Reunion riots in control, but that is the opposite of what’s been going on.
Doctor is kidnapped by the Reunion, but Nearl saves him and many others. Amiya reveals that Originium is what powers most of their world and also explains the significance of having an Originium conduit.
By the last few episodes of Arknights: Prelude to Dawn, both sides suffer great damage. Amiya discovers a new, darker side of her Art after Ch-en kills off Misha and the rest of the Reunion surrenders.
When Kal’tsit orders different operators of Rhodes Island to find if any survivors remain in the abandoned cities, all they find are Reunion members.
After Amiya and Doctor arrive at the location of the Meteorite’s team, they are informed to leave soon since Reunion keeps decreasing the temperature. The reason for these cold, freezing temperatures is the leader Frostnova, who arrives just in time to interrupt Amiya and Mephisto’s fight.
The second season will continue with the battle between Amiya, Frostnova, and Mephisto. Besides Frostnova, many new enemies and potential allies will be joining Arknights season 2.

Perish In Frost, the second season of Arknights will be picking off right after the first season, where we see the Chornobyl Crisis in its prime. The second season will feature Doctor and the rest of Rhodes Island coming across new enemies like Frostnova. Intriguing new allies against the Reunion will come into the picture, too.
