The show is based on the story of how a young rookie firefighter risks his life to save a high schooler during an earthquake. But that was almost a decade ago; in the present time, the firefighter has been promoted to become the team captain, and the young high school girl has become a journalist. A decade when Xu Lai was saved, she realized that she accidentally fell in love with the man who saved her.
She promises him after coming out from the dust and chaos that when she grows up, she will make sure to come back for him. Ten years later, fate brings the two together once again, this time at the site of destruction as well. It does not take long for her to recognize him, though the latter seems to have forgotten all about her and moved on.
Her reporting of the accident ends up getting the fire department get hate from the entire nation, and it only makes sense that Jin Shichuan does not like this. Xu Lai is still very much in love and decides to remain next to the former, trying to get as close to him as possible. Though the ten years seem to have treated Jin Shichuan harshly, Xu Lai thinks it would be worth staying next to the captain and helping him heal.
