Walter married her first husband, Robert Henry Katz, who was a lieutenant in the Navy and also a business executive. They married on June 20, 1955, in New York City, but the couple soon broke up marriage after eleven months of their marriage.
Walter got married to her second husband, Lee Guber, who was a theatre director and producer. The couple got married on December 8, 1963, and was in a happy married life until they decided to get divorced and end their marriage in the year 1976. The couple, before getting divorced, adopted a baby girl named Jacqueline Dena Guber.
After getting divorced in 1976 from her second husband, she got married to her third husband, Merv Adelson, in the year 1981, who is the chairman of the Lorimar Television network.
