Hold your breath folks as Hold the Dark releases on Netflix today. The movie is an adaptation of the novel of the same name written by William Giraldi.
The thriller is set in Alaska with the wolves spreading terror far and wide in the region. When the wolves kill her son, the mother Medora Slone pleads with a wolf expert Russell Core to help her out. According to the synopsis released, as Core helps Medora “a strange and dangerous relationship develops between the two lonely souls.” The story takes a new turn when Medora goes missing and her husband returns from the war and maddened by grief at the loss of his child and wife, goes on a rampage. Core teams up with the local police to find out what happened. The rest of the film chronicles Core’s perilous odyssey into the night.
The trailer released a long time back gives horror vibes and violence, and gore is expected, so if you have a weak heart, you may want to consider alternate weekend plans.
The movie comes from Jeremy Saulnier whose 2015 horror movie Green Room won wide critical acclaim. It stars Jeffrey Wright, Alexander Skarsgard, and James Badge Dale. The movie is being jointly produced by Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, Eva Maria Daniels, Anish Savjani and Neil Kopp.
The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2018, and was received positively by the critics. Currently, at the time of its release, the movie holds 69% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 29 reviews by professional critics. It is being hailed as a very unconventional movie by the critics.
