The new trailer for Richard Linklater’s film Hit Man is out, and it highlights Glen Powell’s leading role. Powell stars opposite Adria Arjona in this “sunlit neo-noir” movie.
He plays Gary Johnson, a college professor who also acts as a police decoy hitman. Things get complicated when he falls for Madison (Arjona), a woman linked to possible crimes. Their romance sparks a web of deceit and danger.
The movie’s script, co-written by Linklater and Powell, is inspired by true stories. Linklater told Collider, “The film has a clear structure. The story takes off when the couple’s relationship heats up, blending crime noir with screwball comedy.”
Plot
The film focuses on Powell’s character, who shifts between different identities, exploring themes of identity and deception. Hit Man promises excitement with a talented cast, including Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, Evan Holtzman, Molly Bernard, and Mike Markoff.
Linklater’s filmmaking style, known for its natural dialogue and innovative storytelling, has given us memorable movies like the “Before” trilogy, Dazed and Confused, Boyhood, and School of Rock.
Release Date
Hit Man will start streaming on Netflix on June 7, 2024, during the summer movie season. The movie premiered at the Venice International Film Festival on September 5, 2023, and later showed at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11.
It received positive reviews at both events, including a review from Ross Bonaime for Collider. Netflix bought the rights to Hit Man for $20 million at the TIFF 2023, making it the festival’s biggest purchase.
