In the previous chapter, Helmut enacted retribution against Jerome for tormenting and harassing him. Readers are eager to find out if Helmut will get along with Asuka, another central character when they inevitably cross paths in the next installment of the popular fantasy serial Helmut: The Forsaken Child Chapter 47.
The prestigious mage academy known as Greta does not discriminate based on social status, at least officially, in an effort to promote more egalitarian values. However, a single policy cannot instantly undo the deeply ingrained societal norms that have reinforced class divides over generations.
Beneath the surface, condescension and abuse of commoner students by those from noble families still runs rampant, though it tends to be suppressed in Asuka’s presence.
Asuka’s reputation as the top student in his department, as well as his infamous “Mad Dog” moniker, make him an imposing figure few want to provoke.
When the arrogant noble Sabbat begins taunting Asuka, seemingly trying to goad him into throwing the first punch, Asuka shows unusual restraint. He knows that any violent retaliation would likely end in another disciplinary suspension on his record.
Just in time, an instructor overhears the entire confrontation and forcefully intervenes before things spiral out of control. She sharply reprimands both young men that those who join the prestigious swordsmanship program are expected to demonstrate discipline, not brute thuggery.
She expresses dismay that students would audaciously attempt violence on academy grounds in broad daylight. Asuka defends himself by identifying Sabbat as the instigator while emphasizing that he is alone with no intention of ganging up unfairly.
Recap and Review
The instructor sharply silences Asuka’s attempts to defend himself, reminding him that she has warned him numerous times previously about his hair-trigger temper. Resorting to violence does not resolve anything constructively.
Asuka bristles at the fact that he alone is being singled out for punishment, feeling it is unjust. However, the instructor makes clear to Sabbat that he is no longer virtuous or mature in this scenario either.
She emphasizes that at an elite institution like Greta Academy, all students – regardless of background – must be judged and treated based solely on their own merits and abilities.
Sabbat gives a flippant acknowledgment that he will take her advice under advisement. With the next class starting soon, the instructor announces it is time to move on and prepare accordingly.
She impatiently motions for Asuka alone to follow her, to his confusion and frustration. She shuts down his attempts to plead his case or make excuses, bluntly telling him to stop complaining and do as instructed without another word.
After Sabbat and his cronies take their leave, the instructor waits until they are out of view before striking Asuka once again. Having endured quite enough abuse already, Asuka has to fight the urge to lose his temper and escalate things.
The instructor berates Asuka for his clear lack of self-control, accusing him of looking for opportunities to stir up trouble. She expresses disbelief that he seems to have learned nothing from his previous suspension and discipline.
Spoilers and Expectations
The instructor points out that Asuka was let off easy previously because of his status as a top student. However, she bluntly warns him that she will not shield him from consequences a second time.
She acknowledges it must be difficult for Asuka to deal with harassment from certain privileged students. But the instructor urges patience – in time, she assures, true skill and ability receive their rightful recognition in the end.
She reminds Asuka that he has tremendous potential – it would be a shame if petty conflicts caused him to lose opportunities. The instructor cites Helmut, a new student, as an example – despite his commoner background, he passed the demanding entrance trials with flying colors because he ignored distractions and stayed focused.
