Heath Miller, a two-time Super Bowl champion who spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is beginning a new journey in football as the newly appointed head coach at St. Anne’s Belfield in Charlottesville, Virginia.
At 41 years old, Miller steps into his new role after previously serving as a middle school assistant coach, where he had the opportunity to coach his sons.
Acknowledging the significant challenge ahead, Miller expressed confidence in his ability to scan it with the right support system. Drawing from his experiences playing under renowned coaches such as Al Groh during his time at Virginia and Hall of Famers Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin with the Steelers, Miller intends to incorporate valuable lessons learned from these mentors into his coaching approach.

Reflecting on his past, Miller emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with excellence and learning from the best. With four children enrolled in St. Anne’s Belfield’s school system, including three sons who actively participate in football, Miller’s commitment to the school’s community and his family’s involvement underscores his dedication to the program’s success.
“More than coaching them on the field, it’s the car rides to and from practice and the bonds that you have in those moments,” Miller said, reflecting on his coaching experience. “With four kids, those one-on-one moments that you get are things that I really cherish.”
Drawing from his extensive playing career, Miller brings a wealth of experience to his coaching role. As a former first-round pick, he played a pivotal part in the Steelers’ success, contributing to two Super Bowl victories, three AFC titles, and five division titles during his tenure in Pittsburgh.
Former Steelers Star Heath Miller’s Selflessness Shines On and Off the Field
Renowned for his toughness, reliability, and versatility as a tight end, Miller was also celebrated for his selflessness and team-first mentality. These qualities were evident when he received the Steelers’ team MVP award in 2012 and was later inducted into the team’s Hall of Honor in 2022.
Reflecting on Miller’s impact, former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger remarked, “He was always in the right place… I knew I didn’t have to guess or wonder. I knew he would be there. There were times I would ask if he was open and he would say no, and I knew he was. That was the selfless part of him.”
Transitioning to his role as a high school coach, Miller expressed enthusiasm for guiding his players through adversity and fostering an environment conducive to lifelong memories and lessons. “Have a lot of fond memories,” Miller remarked, recalling his own high school playing experience. “Built great relationships, and [I hope my players] think back fondly as I do to my high school experience.”
