Hazbin Hotel has quickly become one of North America’s standout animated series. Starting as a YouTube pilot, the show, centered on an underworld endeavor to redeem Hell’s residents, was soon picked up by Amazon Video.
Creator Vivienne Medrano recently shared her aspirations for the series and insights into her background in an interview.
Reflecting on her childhood, Medrano spoke about her early fascination with animal behavior, which initially had her considering a career in zookeeping or animal training. However, her love for cartoons and a habit of constant drawing, partly influenced by her ADHD, steered her towards animation.
She recounted how, as a child, she would pause VHS tapes of animated movies and noticed the subtle differences in each frame, leading her to understand the fundamentals of animation early on.
Medrano expressed her deep commitment to Hazbin Hotel and her desire to continue working on it for as long as possible. “Oh, man. I mean, the real answer is as many as they’ll give me, forever—forever and ever because there could always be more,” she shared enthusiastically.
Drawing inspiration from her favorite show, Bojack Horseman, which ran for six seasons, she mentioned, “My favorite show went to six, so six would be cool!” She emphasized her readiness to tell the story of Charlie and her band of misfits for as long as it takes to fully realize their adventures.
With Medrano’s passion and dedication, Hazbin Hotel seems poised for a long and exciting future, much to the delight of its growing fanbase.
