One of the internet’s most renowned Vocaloids and Japan’s top virtual idols, Hatsune Miku, is officially getting her own anime movie. The film, which has just revealed an exciting new trailer and release date, is set to reignite the Hatsune Miku fandom. Project Sekai’s new anime movie aims to capture the magic that made Miku an internet sensation in the 2010s.
According to a post on X by Project Sekai’s official account, the anime film, titled Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing, will be produced by P.A. Works and is scheduled for theatrical release across Japan on January 17, 2025. The announcement was also accompanied by an enticing trailer and music performed by Miku herself.
The movie will be directed by Hata Hiroyuki, known for his work on the storyboards for Dr. Stone, Squid Girl, and as the director of the series Recently, My Sister is Unusual. As indicated by the title, Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing will likely be set in the world of Project Sekai, the popular mobile rhythm game centered around the virtual idol, but will present a completely original story crafted by Studio P.A. Despite her efforts, Miku’s songs aren’t reaching her audience. After witnessing Ichika’s live performance, Miku enlists Ichika’s help to fulfill her wish.
