Marvel Cinematic Universe star Lashana Lynch remains uncertain about the future of her character, Maria Rambeau, following her cameo in *The Marvels*, which hinted at the inclusion of the X-Men in the MCU.
In an interview, Lynch discussed the post-credits scene in *The Marvels*, where her character’s connection to the X-Men was revealed. When asked about the future of the X-Men in the MCU and Maria Rambeau’s role in it, Lynch admitted to seeking answers, stating, “I did know going into the movie. I didn’t know what would happen next. I don’t know anything, literally.”
She emphasized that every development of her character has been revealed to her step by step, mentioning her knowledge about *Captain Marvel*, *Doctor Strange*, and *The Marvels*. Lynch affirmed that she received information about these films as they came, without being privy to the full script of *The Marvels*.
In *The Marvels*, Lynch portrayed an alternate version of Maria, taking on the role of the X-Men’s Binary in the post-credits scene. Maria Rambeau, a former U.S. Air Force pilot and mother of Monica Rambeau, had been presumed dead in the main Marvel continuity after succumbing to cancer during the Blip. The reveal of her as an X-Men variant hinted at the increasing prominence of the mutant group in the MCU.
Apart from her appearances in the Captain Marvel franchise, Lynch also played an alternate version of Maria in *WandaVision* and *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*. The latter saw her multiversal variant being killed by Wanda Maximoff, causing tension with her then-ally Monica.
As for Lynch’s upcoming projects, she is currently promoting her film *Bob Marley: One Love*. The movie, chronicling the final decade of reggae icon Bob Marley’s life, features Lynch in the role of Rita Marley, Bob’s wife. Set to release on Feb. 14, *One Love* also stars Kingsley Ben-Adir and James Norton.
*The Marvels*, following a disappointing box office performance, recently confirmed its streaming date. The film, which failed to recoup its $275 million budget, includes appearances from Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, and Zawe Ashton.
