Since Gypsy Rose Blanchard got out of prison, she’s been dealing with a lot of criticism, especially from people supporting Nick Godejohn. Even though she’s not in prison anymore, Gypsy thinks it’s not right to get so much negativity.
People who are close to Gypsy Rose say she’s been hit with a lot of bad feelings from those who support Nick Godejohn.
Many of these people are mad at Gypsy because she’s free while Nick is in prison for life because of her mother Dee Dee’s murder.
Gypsy is feeling really guilty about her situation. She thinks it’s not fair to call her a murderer when she didn’t physically hurt her mother; it was Nick who did it. Gypsy was found guilty of second-degree murder for planning the crime.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard is puzzled by the sympathy Nick Godejohn is getting
Gypsy doesn’t understand why people are supporting Nick’s release. She strongly believes Nick enjoyed brutally stabbing her mother 17 times and questions why others are backing him.
Even though Gypsy is on parole after more than 8 years in prison, she feels she tried to help Nick during his 2018 trial by talking about her role in the plan to kill Dee Dee. She thought this testimony would ease her guilt and help her find forgiveness.
Gypsy has made it clear that she doesn’t have any emotional connection with Nick. She doesn’t want to talk to him and is focused on putting their past behind to start fresh.
While Gypsy doesn’t hate Nick, she also doesn’t feel love or sympathy for him. She remains indifferent, even though she faces online attacks from people supporting Nick’s release.
In Gypsy’s opinion, Nick’s punishment matches the severity of his actions. She highlights that Nick expressed his intention to enjoy killing her mother in text messages before the tragic event. Gypsy sees Nick as a threat to society and supports keeping him in prison with access to extensive mental health care.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s murder case
Gypsy Rose Blanchard is now free after getting out of prison on December 28, 2023.
Back in 2016, Gypsy got a 10-year prison sentence after saying she played a part in her mother’s tragic death, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.
Gypsy, who was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, went through many unnecessary medical treatments because her mother wanted attention, making up illnesses for her.
Her arrest and trial got a lot of public attention, and it inspired projects like the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest” and Hulu’s series “The Act,” with Joey King as Gypsy and Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee.
Now that she’s free, Gypsy is sharing her perspective in the Lifetime docuseries “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard” and her ebook “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom.”
Dee Dee Blanchard murder case
On June 9, 2015, a very sad thing happened – Gypsy’s mom, Dee Dee Blanchard, passed away. Gypsy and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, planned this tragic event in 2015.
They first met on a dating website years ago and decided to end the life of Gypsy’s mom, Dee Dee, who had been treating Gypsy badly both mentally and physically throughout her whole life.
On that sad night of June 9, 2015, Godejohn came to Missouri to meet Gypsy. He waited patiently for a sign that Dee Dee was asleep before going into their home. Gypsy shared in “Mommy Dead and Dearest” that on the night of the terrible event, she and Dee Dee spent some time doing each other’s manicures.
Gypsy then put Dee Dee to bed, promising to be “a good girl.” Once Dee Dee was asleep, Godejohn went into the house, and Gypsy hid in a bathroom while Godejohn tragically ended Dee Dee’s life.
Skipping ahead to June 14, 2015, and the discovery of Dee Dee Blanchard’s lifeless body. Gypsy wrote on Dee Dee’s Facebook, “That Bitch is dead!” on the same day, making Dee Dee’s friends worried. When they couldn’t reach Dee Dee, they informed the authorities, and the police later found her lifeless body in her home.
