Gyeongseong Creature is a K drama series that was released on Netflix, and that was just part one. Part One has seven episodes, and then Part 2 will debut in 2024 on Netflix. And with Part 1 being already released, let’s talk about the fate of Gyeongseong Creature Part 2 and when it will be released.
Netflix’s recent South Korean supernatural series Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 delivered intense excitement, amazing action, and a fantastic historical backdrop linked to Korea’s quest for independence.
The initial part, comprising 7 hour-long episodes, introduces the series by focusing on a businessman and a detective confronting the challenges of Japanese imperialism in 1945.
The show weaves a mix of fiction and historical facts, providing an enjoyable experience with a decent emphasis on the context and events of that period. While the first part may not be consistently thrilling, it manages to entertain, even if it occasionally stretches things a bit more than necessary.
The show takes us to 1945 Seol, where the search for missing women sets two people on a life-changing adventure. Jang Tae Sang, wealthy and influential, finds himself on a quest to find a woman after a mishap. Along the way, he encounters Yun Chae Ok, who has been searching for her mother for more than 10 years.
Here is Gyeongseong Creature Part 2, Everything We Know So Far:
Plot
So, the series takes place in 1945 when Korea was under Japan’s rule. So not only is there the monster factor, but there is also the other factor where the Korean people are suffering and are not being treated well.
What I think K drama does well is that they’re always able to give characters a full arc. Even if in the beginning you think they’re just a supporting character or a minor character, you get to the end of the series or you get to that episode and something gets unveiled about this one character and you’re just like, Oh my gosh. They do this almost all the time for all the characters that you encounter, and this series is no exception.
So to start we have Tae Sang who is the owner of an esteemed pawn shop. Not only that, but he is also a very popular man in town. He has a lot of resources, as in money and people, and he is known for finding things like. Obviously, in a pawn shop, if somebody needs to track down an item, he has the ability or the resources to do that.
But that also goes for people, and that’s where his story starts. He has been asked to find a Korean woman who has gone missing, but he’s also being threatened. Because basically, if he doesn’t find her, they’re going to come and take everything that he owns, the shop, the money, his personal things, everything.
So he has got his back against the wall, and he is going after his, you know, network of people asking, and he is just not finding a lot.
At the same time, a father and daughter come into town, and they’re looking for an artist. So, the three meet, strike a deal, and join forces. What they did not expect was to follow the breadcrumb trails to both of the people they were looking for, ending them in a hospital. But it’s not a normal hospital because there is some very terrifying human experiment going on in the basement of the hospital.
Ending Explained
During the final episode, Chae Ok wakes up to a new day after escaping the hospital nightmare, but Jang Tae Sang is nowhere to be found.
The scene then shifts back to the night before as the group attempts to make their escape, only to be discovered by soldiers. This results in a confrontation between Jang Tae Sang, Chae Ok, and the young soldier against the Japanese soldiers while the rest of the group makes their getaway. Sadly, the young soldier is shot and killed in the process.
When the time comes to escape, Tae Sang chooses to stay behind to divert the enemy’s attention. Chae Ok witnesses this and feels the urge to go back, but with the prisoner’s safety in jeopardy, she has to reluctantly leave Jang Tae Sang behind.
Meanwhile, Jang Tae Sang fends off the soldiers and manages to escape. While trying to evade pursuers, he accidentally falls into a room filled with bones where an officer locates him and attempts to kill him.
A New Najin
In another place, Kwon Joon Taek discloses the names of Jang Tae Sang, Chae Ok, and the Independence Movement group members before being released.
Meanwhile, Myeong Ja returned to Commissioner Ishikawa as agreed. However, Ishikawa is skeptical, suspecting that others might have escaped the hospital. He directs his men to stop the other prisoners, but the House of Golden Treasures outsmarts them. They managed to assist the prisoners in getting away, including Chae Ok and her father.
Colonel Gato is startled to discover an empty water cup on his table, which previously contained a Najin sample he intended to give Chae Ok. Investigating, he realizes that only Jang Tae Sang, Chae Ok, Myeong Ja, and Officer Soma had access to his office. This leads him to suspect that one of these four individuals might currently host a Nadjin, indicating the presence of another monster in the vicinity.
As he ponders which of these individuals might have the Najin Yukiko, Maeda urges director Ichiro to step down in light of recent events. However, he counters by revealing the results of their experiment on Cheo Sim, the woman sent to the hospital by Mayeda.
Intrigued by this revelation, we learned that Jang Tae Sang had skillfully avoided the officer. His departure leaves a handprint, sparking suspicion that he might carry the Najin.
Gyeongseong Creature Part 1 Post Credit Scene Explained
Gyeongseong Creature Episode 7 ends with a post-credit scene, revealing the virus heading toward Myeong Ja’s brain. This indicates that she drank the glass after all and is set up to be the new monster.
So, in that case, is there only one Najin who managed to escape the hospital? We’re sure Myeong Ja has a Najin in her, but there’s a chance another one entered someone else. Jang Tae Sang is a possibility, considering his mysterious escape from a gun pointed at him.
Chae Ok’s dream of Jang Tae Sang turning into a monster and the handprint he leaves add to this assumption. While this is just speculation, the upcoming installment promises an exciting ride, likely navigating through various challenges, possibly culminating in a scene depicting the independence of Korea.
Gyeongseong Creature Season 2, released with three episodes, will mark the series’ conclusion. The upcoming season will address lingering questions, shifting focus to the Najin now residing within a pregnant woman. This revelation promises a fascinating discovery for those involved in the experiments, unveiling a new horror for our protagonists.
Release Date
Gyeongseong Creature’s first season is being divided into two parts by Netflix, an action that is highly unusual. Part 1 was released in December 2023, and Gyeongseong Creature Part 2 will be released on 5 January 2024.
It’s safe to conclude that Netflix seems optimistic about the show’s future based only on that fact. In the past, this kind of action has typically been saved for brand-new seasons of successful shows, such as The Witcher Season 3, Stranger Things Season 4, or Lupin Season 2.
With a second season officially planned and filming in progress, the streamer’s faith in the show goes far beyond simply critiquing the first. Although no further information was provided, the confirmation was made more than a year ago, in the month of November 2022.
After that, filming was scheduled to begin in early 2023; however, filming continued until September of that year, when star Han So-Hee received a COVID-19 diagnosis.
As of this writing, there is no official indication of when Gyeongseong Creature’s second season will air. However, given that the first season’s filming concluded in October 2022 and that post-production took more than a year, a fair estimate would place it no earlier than the start of 2025.
Thoughts On Gyeongseong Creature
I will say right off the bat, it started off a lot more gruesome than I thought. I already knew from watching the trailer that there’s going to be a monster factor in this show. But it’s more than that, and this series really makes you question is the monster the monster? Or Are certain people monsters?
I love the series that makes you think with every episode, something new gets unveiled, and you learn something about a character or how they connect from one to another, and it’s just so much fun to watch.
But yes, it’s a trigger warning if you’re not into blood and gore. I mean, they don’t go crazy. It’s not like The Boys. It’s not gruesome like that but there is blood, there is gore.
