Netflix has recently launched Gyeongseong Creature, a show I had been eagerly anticipating. 1940s wartime settings saw Tae Sang thrust into a situation where he had to track down a specific missing person to avoid losing everything he had worked so hard to accumulate. and be spared from having to give up the life he had grown to love.
He was required to take a leave of absence to work on his tale alongside Chae Ok, who was also looking for her mother, who had been missing for ten years. The first-season conclusion of Gyeongseong Creature features several cliffhangers, including a scene after the credits that fundamentally alters Chae-ok and Tae-sang’s stories.
The most recent Korean drama on Netflix was divided into two parts, the first of which concluded with Chae-ok and the majority of the hospital inmates making their escape. Part 2 of Gyeongseong Creature continued where episode 7 left off, with the devastation of Ongseong Hospital before the end of Japanese colonial control over Korea in August 1945.
The involvement of Lady Maeda was confirmed in Gyeongseong Creature Part 2. She chose the test subjects for the military and Ongseong Hospital in addition to giving them the money they needed to carry out the trials. Similar to how she had set up the capture and subsequent use of Chae-ok’s mother as a test subject years prior, Lady Maeda had arranged for Myeong-ja to be admitted to the hospital.
Chae-ok and Tae-sang battle dozens of Lady Maeda’s goons in the final moments of Gyeongseong Creature season 1, with Chae-ok appearing to be dying from her wounds. Finally, Tae-sang put his money into aiding the revolution, and an unexpected time jump pushed the historical K-drama series into the present era.
Episode seven of the first half of the show began, and when it did, we saw that Tae Sang and Chae Ok had managed to round up all of the test subjects and bring them close enough to the point of escape. To ensure that every touch point would be satisfied and that there would be no possibility of failure, Tae Sang had come up with a strategy that effectively involved the entire town.
Initially, everyone managed to scale the window and enter the rear of the truck that Mister Gu was driving while posing as an officer. After everyone had fallen, it was evident that Tae Sang had decided to stay behind and divert the troops’ attention to give them more time to go without being detected.
Ending Explained
The conclusion of Gyeongseong Creature episode 10 discloses that Chae-ok was revived after dying, indicating that she did not pass away. At first, the episode made a solid case for Chae-ok’s death following her injuries from the monster and Lady Maeda’s goons.
To stop the monster from killing Tae-sang, Chae-ok—who was already injured and bleeding from the fight—placed herself between her mother and Tae-sang. Thus, Chae-ok’s mother—who was only marginally able to regulate her behavior and could hardly recognize her daughter—became hostile toward her daughter.
It was ludicrous to think Chae-ok might have survived, given the number of fatal wounds she sustained. On the other hand, Chae-ok is healed or raised by her mother at the bottom of what appears to be a lake in the Gyeongseong Creature season 1 finale.
Since the monster’s origins are shrouded in mystery, it is not entirely implausible to believe that it is capable of healing humans with its abilities. Han Soo-hee’s character may have come back to life because Chae-ok’s mother may have given her daughter her energy or essence of life.
The detective may now turn into a monster because this process also entailed the Najin organism moving from the creature to Chae-ok. A huge storyline bombshell that alters every aspect of Gyeongseong Creature, including the potential for a second season, is revealed in the post-credits of episode 10.
The program itself jumped back in time to depict Gyeongseong’s appearance following his surrender to the Japanese, although the post-credits sequence takes place decades later. Television broadcasts in color depicted significant moments in Korea’s history, including scenes from the 2000s.
To put it another way, the post-credits sequence of Gyeongseong Creature occurs more than 60 years later. Through the window, one can see a contemporary Gyeongseong, which is now the capital of South Korea, Seoul, and a guy portraying Park Seo-Joon.
Although the character played by Park Seo-Joon is called “Ho-Jae” instead of Tae-sang, the way the action unfolds implies that this is the same individual that viewers have been following since episode 1.
The time jump cliffhanger in Gyeongseong Creature changes everything for the program and establishes a new season 2 set in contemporary Seoul. Although multigenerational plots are common in K-drama series, it is shocking to see a TV show jump ahead more than 60 years after the first season.
It’s possible that the Najin experiments went on for decades, given that Kato was still alive at the end of the episode. The main mystery surrounding the ending of Gyeongseong Creature is how Tae-sang managed to remain alive and maintain the same appearance after all these years.
It is impossible to completely rule out the idea that Park Seo-Joon is portraying a completely new character who is linked to Tae-sang and looks like him. Ho-Jae may be Tae-sang’s grandson, and Gyeongseong Creature season 2 may center on a new family generation battling unfamiliar foes.
But since the guy had a scar on his neck, this may very well be Tae-sang. This would imply that Tae-sang has developed some sort of unique ability. Myeong-ja was already infected and would change regardless of who drank the glass of water. Therefore, Gyeongseong Creature Part 2 never disclosed who did so.
Tae-sang might have gained the creature’s skills without completely changing if he drank the tainted water. To put it another way, Tae-sang would now live forever. Tae-sang might have become infected even if he had not consumed it; anything could have happened in the months that followed.
In any case, the scar around the neck points to a surgical or metamorphic alteration, which would account for Tae-sang’s similar appearance in 1945 and modern-day Seoul. In the shocking conclusion of Gyeongseong Creature, Lady Maeda survived the explosion of the bomb despite being directly in front of it.
Despite the possibility that this is merely a plot device, Kato may have saved and cared for Lady Maeda. Lieutenant Kato may have utilized his knowledge and tools to save Lady Maeda’s life because he is intrigued by the potential of the human organism.
It’s also possible that Kato used the Najin to keep Maeda alive, bestowing upon her newfound powers. The glass of water next to her might be a metaphor for the fact that she has contracted the infection as well.
Before she passed away, Myeong-ja gave birth to a kid, and Kato operated on her. By the time Myeong-ja gave birth, she was already slowly transforming into a monster. Thus, it’s safe to assume the infant acquired Najin’s genetic makeup. Now that Kato has the child, they may be the first of many new subjects that he uses for his deranged studies of the Najin.
It’s unclear if that child’s adult form will show up in a possible Gyeongseong Creature season 2 episode. Given that monsters and infected people do not age naturally, Myeong-ja’s child might play a significant role in the contemporary scenario.
Two significant cliffhangers from Gyeongseong Creature’s season 1 conclusion suggest that season 2 is quite likely. Season 2 of Gyeongseong Creature has not been confirmed as of the time this article was written.
But from a narrative standpoint, the conclusion of season one begs for a continuation. Gyeongseong Creature will now have to deal with a 60-year lapse between the conclusion of episode 10 and the post-credits scene, and it would be unfortunate if there were no follow-up to such a significant cliffhanger.
After the period piece plot of the first season, Gyeongseong Creature season 2 might take place in contemporary Seoul, which would be a creative approach to the series. The post-credits sequence from Gyeongseong Creature episode 10 alone left a lot of concerns unresolved.
Given that Tae-sang was standing in front of the monster with her lifeless body in his arms, it is still unknown how and when Chae-ok was revived. Tae-sang most likely was unaware that Chae-ok was still alive because of his depressing appearance at the end of season 1.
Gyeongseong Creature season 2 also has to handle the instant repercussions of Lady Maeda’s return, the birth of Myeong-ja’s child, and Maeda’s connection to Chaeo-ok’s mother. Last but not least, it is unclear if Chae-ok is still living today.
