Gyeongseong Creature has just been released on Netflix, and this is a show that I was looking forward to coming out. Set during the midst of war in the 1940s, we saw Tae Sang being forced into a position where he needed to find a certain missing somebody in order for him not to be stripped of all of the riches that he built up from nothing. And not have to abandon the life that he had become comfortable with.
Along with this mission, he had to sit out to do his story intertwined with Chae Ok as she herself was searching for her mother, who’d been missing for 10 years. The search led them to find something that was a nightmare that they could have never possibly imagined in their wildest dreams.
Gyeongseong Creature Ending
As we embarked on the ending of the first part of the show, which was episode seven, we saw that Tae Sang and Chae Ok had rounded up all of the test subjects and got them to the point where they were going to be able to escape. Tae Sang had devised a plan that essentially had the entire town involved so that every touch point was going to be met and had no chance that it would fail.
This started off with everybody being able to climb out of the window and get into the back of the truck that Mister Gu was driving disguised as an officer. Once everybody had gone down, we saw that Tae Sang decided that he himself would stay behind and act as a distraction to the soldiers so that it would buy them more time to be able to escape without suspicion.
This was done because it tied back to what was said earlier in the season. It was always mentioned that Tae Sang didn’t do anything for the community that was under the control of the opposition army. He never joined the resistance, as they felt as though he didn’t use his wealth in a way that allowed the people to live better lives.
But this was his way of showing that he did care for others and was prepared to lay down his own life in order for them to be able to survive and escape. It was also said that once everybody made it back to the safety of the town and was disguised as regular civilians, he did far more than what most people realized and that he did care about the people of the community.
So, it showed that people were judging him without truly knowing what it was that he was doing behind the scenes. He was doing things, but he just didn’t want the recognition. Once all of the people had escaped and were back in the town, we saw that Tae Sang had managed to kill 6 troops that were against him, and he escaped through a vent.
Once he got out of the vent, there was a really striking image, which was him just laying on top of a pile of bones that were there from all of the previous subjects that the military was testing on. It was powerful because it was similar to what we saw at the beginning of the first episode when it came to the mass devastation and disregard for life that the military showcased.
Who Is The Other Monster?
Tying into the question of who is the real monster in the show, is it the physical monster that’s killing the people in front of them because they’re a threat to her and transformed her into it? Or are the soldiers, Lieutenant Gato and Director Ichiro, behind this sick project? I think we know what the true answer is there.
Once Tae Sang awoke and was on top of the bones, we saw that he got into a fight with the military officer who had been trying to get him for a long while. But with us just hearing gunshots, we were left to wonder who it was that survived. But it was Tae Sang that came out victorious from battle.
One really interesting thing about the whole experiment that was taking place underneath the hospital is that there was a glass of water that was on the table from earlier on, which Gato wanted Chae Ok to drink, but she didn’t.
This drink had the Najin inside of it, the very thing that can turn a regular human into the monster that Chae Ok’s mother turned into, following her consuming it. It was revealed at this moment that there was a possibility that one of four people could have consumed it without knowing what was inside of it. It was going to be either Tae Sang, Chae Ok, or Myeong Ja.
Gyeongseong Creature Ending Explained
With the final episode concluding and cutting to Black and leaving us wondering how it was that consumed it, the show returned after a couple of seconds, and we saw that Najin was present in Myeong Ja as she was sleeping next to Commissioner Ishikawa.
The Nagin was going up the side of her face and towards her brain. That is where we would told that it heads towards as it takes it over completely, rendering the human not in control before then transforming their physical appearance.
So, it answered the question of who consumed it. We know that. Myeong Ja is pregnant with a child, so it will be interesting to see how the Najin ends up impacting an unborn baby and if it means that when the child is born, they’re also born as a monster.
That’s something that will come with time, but I feel Commissioner Ishikawa is going to face the repercussions of having an affair by most probably being mauled by his monster mistress, as she’ll most probably not be fully in control when it starts to take over.
This poses a lot of issues for the second part of the show when it returns in the first week of January. There are now two monsters that have been created by the military. There is the one that was contained and was wiped out due to the nitrogen during the final episode. But there’s also going to be one that’s on the loose in the city, something which is going to be extremely catastrophic for the civilians.
We saw what the monster was like in the facility and how they wiped out trained soldiers in a matter of moments. There’s barely anything that can stop them. So, having Myeong Ja as the monster could cause so much damage to everybody there because they won’t have a clue on how to stop it, and they won’t even know what it is. Because, as director Ichiro said in the final episode, it’s all top secret and confidential.
Chae Ok Will Go Back To Save Tae Sang
One arm of this story that I think will also be developed when the show returns is the romance that was blossoming between Tae Sang and Chae Ok. We saw that Tae Sang looked like he was going to be able to escape the facility, and Chae Ok wasn’t settled in her mind, knowing that he had just left there.
So I think a way of reigniting their romance is going to be her going back there with the intention of finding him. We must also remember that her mother is the monster that’s trapped there. So she’ll still probably want to find a way of being able to free her mother, albeit she won’t be in her original form, but she won’t be suffering at the hands of the military anymore.
Chea Ok asked him if he had feelings for her before she escaped the hospital, and I think she actually has feelings for him, despite him going all nervous and not wanting to answer properly. So I think that’s something that will make up a main arm of the story when it does return.
Overall Review
I thought this show was just OK. I don’t think the story was super gripping, and I actually think the show being set in the modern day would have helped it, as it didn’t really feel like it was set in the 40s. It just felt like the modern day with props and a set that was decked out to replicate the 40s, so they might as well have just had it in the present day.
Either the monster was really cool in the way that it was designed, it was menacing, and it really did give off the impression that it was unstoppable. The CGI was a bit questionable at times, but when it needed to be OK, it served its purpose well.
I would have liked to have seen more of the monster, to be honest, as there were a couple of episodes where it didn’t have a large feature.
Something I found a bit strange was that the military couldn’t locate the monster on certain occasions. I mean, this is a giant figure that’s quite literally tearing people apart, so it was a surprise that they essentially lost it.
