Gryffin is a multifaceted American artist who works as a DJ, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He became well-known by remixing well-known songs, including Years & Years’ “Desire,” Maroon 5’s “Animals,” and Tove Lo’s “Talking Body.”
Gryffin was born to a Japanese mother and an American father in San Francisco, California. He underwent classical piano training and began playing the guitar at an early age. He played in several bands and worked on his instrument.
At Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California, he finished his high school education. Later, he attended the University of Southern California to seek a degree in electrical engineering, spending a large portion of his free time in his dorm room creating music.
When asked about the beginning of his music-producing career, he said, “I never would’ve dreamed it would reach this level of success. My main goal was to create music that my friends could play at college parties.” In 2015, Gryffin made his debut in front of a large audience as Gryffin at the SnowGlobe Music Festival.
His stage name is a mashup of his last name, “Griffith,” and the griffin, a legendary animal. Griffith was one half of the mashup combo known as White Panda before he began his solo career.
On January 22, 2016, Gryffin made his debut in the music industry by releasing “Heading Home,” his first song with Australian artist Josef Salvat. Those responsible for Darkroom/Interscope Records’ release of this song. On May 2, 2016, he posted the official music video to his YouTube channel.
With positions of number one on the Spotify Viral 50 chart, number two on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, number 22 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart, and number five on the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists chart, “Heading Home” enjoyed remarkable success.
The following day, on August 26, 2016, Gryffin and Bipolar Sunshine released “Whole Heart.” In an interview, Gryffin noted that “Whole Heart” symbolized the development of his musical style and the breadth of his songwriting and that it represented a key turning point in his artistic path.
Gryffin released “You Were Loved” with OneRepublic on April 1, 2022. After that, on November 4, 2022, he released his second album, “Alive.”
