Sandra Crouch, the twin sister of the late Andraé Crouch and co-writer of the gospel hit “Jesus Is the Answer,” has passed away at the age of 81.
A viewing and musical tribute in honor of Sandra’s life will be held on April 16 at New Christ Memorial Church, followed by a homegoing service on April 17.
She died on Sunday, March 17, at Northridge Hospital in Northridge, California, due to complications from radiation treatment for a non-cancerous brain lesion.
In the 1970s, Sandra joined her brother in The Disciples, contributing vocals, instrumentation, and co-writing songs such as “Jesus Is the Answer,” which became a gospel radio staple.
Their musical collaborations extended beyond gospel, including backing vocals for Michael Jackson on various tracks, as well as performing with him at the Grammys in 1988. They also contributed to several film soundtracks, including “The Color Purple”, “Free Willy”, and “The Lion King”.
Sandra released three solo albums in the 1980s. After Andraé’s passing in 2015, Sandra assumed the role of senior pastor at Christ Memorial Church. Her death was announced by the church’s assistant pastor, Kenneth J. Cook, who shared the news and paid tribute to her impact on their congregation.
