Member of beloved K-pop boyband GOT7 Mark Tuan has just made a twitter post, politely requesting his fans to stop sending things to his house. The tweet, written all in English stated how even though he was grateful for the sentiment, he would appreciate if they stopped.
Fans went wild seeing the tweet, and it instantly hit a ton of reposts and likes. Seeing their favorite K-pop boy having to post something like this in English meant that the situation was now way overboard than they had expected it to be.
Mark had debuted with GOT7 in 2014 and is still involved with the members of the group, but is also currently prioritizing his solo career and making a name for himself apart from the band.
His tweet instigated confusion among netizens as well fear for the well-being of the idol as it was quite random and unexpected for everyone. Since Mark Tuan was busy focusing on his music, problems of his personal life weren’t in the limelight up until now.
Who is Mark Tuan?
Mark Yien Tuan, popularly known as Mark Tuan, is an American ethnically Taiwanese who debuted in the Korean boy band GOT7 in 2014 under JYP Entertainment. Despite being in a group, Mark had always wanted to pursue a solo career.
He wanted to be more accomplished as a songwriter and have autonomy on the type of songs he sings on stage, which was only possible through solo debut. He began to work his way up in the Chinese market and media and make a name for himself.
When GOT7 finally cut itself off from JYP in 2021 due to the lack of proper treatment, Mark launched his own studio in Beijing and began to prepare for his solo career.
He had made his solo debut in 2020 but officially began to work after leaving JYP Entertainment. As of now, Mark has released one album and one EP, alongside 2 singles in Chinese.
Why does Mark not want Fans to send things to his doorstep?
On December 20, 2023, Mark writes on Twitter ” I know it’s all out of love but I’d I appreciate it if you guys stop sending letters/packages to my house. Please and Thank you”.
It seems that Mark requested for no gifts and letters to protect his privacy. When too many people fans figure out where their idols live, it can risk the overbearing paparazzi to intervene, or also the addition of sasaengs.
Sasaeng is a term in the Korean industry which is used to describe the obsessive fans who often risk the well-being of the idols. These fans care more of exposing the private lives of the idols rather than supporting their career and music.
Furthermore, it can also risk information leakage of their family members and loved ones, giving them unnecessary media attention and prone to public judgement.
Perhaps, keeping these things in mind, Mark decided to make a conscious decision of making a public request to his fans as a preventive measure.
What do the Ahgases think of Mark Tuan’s Post?
After seeing the tweet Mark made, Ahgases, which is the name given by GOT7 to their fan base, immediately filled the post with postive affirmations towards the idol.
Alot of them were worried about his family as Mark was still living with his parents in the US. Most of the mail and gifts that were being sent in by fans were being handled by them. Fans suspect how overwhelming it could be for the family members to take care of it while Mark is away.
Some of them also mentioned about where all the letters and things would actually go. If there were valuables among the gifts and Mark wasn’t able to keep them all, it would possibly end up in the bin than his house, just contributing to more waste.
