According to Deadline, the film collected approximately US$8 million during its preview screenings on Thursday across roughly 3,400 locations in the U.S. This figure marks the second-best previews for a “Monsterverse” movie, trailing behind 2014’s Godzilla, which earned US$9.3 million in preview screenings.
Originally slated for release on April 12, the film premiered in the United States two weeks earlier than planned. This date change followed a delay from its initial March 15 opening. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire played across 3,861 theaters for its opening weekend, including IMAX and 4DX screenings.
Directed by Adam Wingard, the film’s production was helmed by Mary Parent, Álex García, Eric McLeod, Thomas Tull, and Jon Jashni.
The preceding installment, Godzilla vs. Kong, debuted internationally in March 2021 in territories where the HBO Max streaming service is unavailable. The film has since amassed US$100,916,094 in the United States and a global total of US$470,116,094, as reported by Box Office Mojo.
Godzilla vs. Kong made its debut in Japan in July 2021, following a delay from its original May 2021 release date, and similarly dominated the local box office during its opening weekend.
