God of War Ragnarok follows Kratos and Atreus as they navigate the Nine Realms during the approaching Norse apocalypse

God of War Ragnarok continues to attract buyers nearly four years after its original release, demonstrating the franchise’s remarkable staying power. According to new estimates from market research firm Alinea Analytics, the PlayStation action-adventure game sold approximately 1.1 million copies in 2026, generating nearly $60 million in revenue.

These figures are particularly impressive considering that God of War Ragnarok has been available through PlayStation Plus Extra for approximately two years. Despite giving subscribers another way to access the game without purchasing a separate copy, the title continues to generate substantial premium sales.

The latest estimates were shared by Alinea Analytics market analyst Rhys Elliott as part of the company’s analysis of the highest-grossing PlayStation games of the current console generation. The findings also place God of War Ragnarok ahead of several major releases from 2026, including Gears of War: E-Day and Saros.

God of War Ragnarok Has Generated $1.4 Billion Since Launch

Beyond its recent performance, God of War Ragnarok has established itself as PlayStation’s highest-grossing first-party game of the current console generation, according to Alinea Analytics.

The game has reportedly sold 21.6 million copies across PlayStation and PC, generating approximately $1.4 billion in gross revenue. PlayStation accounts for 20.1 million copies, while Steam contributes approximately 1.6 million.

Of the PlayStation sales, 75.2% came from PS5, with the remainder attributed to PS4. Physical copies also represent approximately 27.5% of its PlayStation sales.

Its performance puts it ahead of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which has generated an estimated $1.3 billion from more than 19.1 million copies sold.

PlayStation Plus Has Not Stopped God of War Ragnarok’s Sales Momentum

One of the most interesting aspects of the game’s continued success is its performance despite its availability through PlayStation Plus Extra. Alinea Analytics estimates that approximately 6.7 million PlayStation Plus players have accessed the game through the subscription service.

Despite this additional distribution, God of War Ragnarok managed to sell another 1.1 million copies in 2026. Around 68% of its revenue this year came from PlayStation platforms, highlighting the continued demand for premium purchases.

The results also demonstrate how established PlayStation franchises can continue generating substantial revenue long after their initial launch, even when subscription services expand their potential audience.

God of War Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 Generate $172.9 Million in 2026

God of War Ragnarok isn’t the only older PlayStation release maintaining strong sales. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has also performed remarkably well, selling approximately 2.3 million copies in 2026 and generating $115.8 million.

Together, the two games have sold approximately 3.4 million copies this year, generating a combined $172.9 million in revenue. This makes them significant contributors to Sony’s ongoing catalogue sales.

The continued performance of these titles highlights the commercial value of established PlayStation franchises. With a God of War television adaptation starring Dave Bautista also in development for Amazon Prime Video, the franchise could receive another boost in popularity when the series arrives.
