English actress and politician Glenda May Jackson died at the age of 87. Her agent Lionel Larner released the statement on Thursday that Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Awards actress and politician, died peacefully at her home in Blackheath, London. She was suffering from a brief illness and left this morning with family at her side.
He added that she recently completed The Great Escaper film shooting and shared the screen with Michael Caine. Michael also reacted that it was a wonderful experience this time as it was 50 years back, and said that he would miss her. Both Michael and Glenda shared the screen with Jackson in 1975 for the first time. Sir Jonathan Pierce said that he believed she(Glenda) was the greatest actor that this country had ever produced.
Being an English actress, Glenda achieved the American Triple Crown of Acting. She has bagged Two Academy Awards and three Grammys, and a Tony Award in the six decades of her acting career. In 1978, Queen Elizabeth II appointed her as a CBE. She left the entertainment industry due to politics, and later 2016, Glenda made a comeback to acting by playing King Lear on stage. In 2020 she also bagged BAFTA for her comeback in the television drama called Elizabeth Is Missing.

Many politicians paid tribute to Glenda Jackson
Glenda Jackson joined politics and became Labour MP from the House of Commons in North London. Tulip Siddiq, a Labour MP, tweeted that he was Devastated to hear that his predecessor Glenda Jackson had died. She was a formidable politician and amazing actress and was a mentor to him. And he wrote further that Kilburn and Hampstead would miss Glenda. Tulip Siddiq took Glenda’s former seat in politics.
Lucy Powell, Shadow culture secretary, recalled the memory that Glenda as an incredibly kind politician and her cutting humor and general disdain at most things. Powell wrote that Glenda was the icon, successfully spanning the world of acting and politics with great aplomb.
Former Conservative MP Gyles Brandreth, also a Broadcaster, said that Glenda was a wonderful actress, a committed politician, and a remarkable person. He wrote that both (Glenda and Gyles) became MP on the same day in the year 1992, and he treasured their unlikely friendship. He added that she was a gifted, caring, and special person who came into the world to make a difference, and she did. The current Prime minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, also expressed his grief and wrote that it was extremely sad news. And added his thoughts will be with her friends and family at this time.
Labour MP Chris Bryant, who also wrote the biography of Jackson in 1999, informed the Radio channel that Glenda had versatility, and it was the quality of the work and the variety. Her voice could go from gravel to caramel in just three seconds. In radio Live Former Labour MP Baroness Hoey also said that when she came into parliament. She was so modest. and never wanted to be reminded that she was also an actress. And many others paid tribute to the Hedda actress.
If we talk about the actress contributed to many successful movies and made achievements in the entertainment industry. Well, Glenda was a phenomenon actress and grabbed Academy Award twice for Best Actress category for the two romance movies, Women in Love (1970) and A Touch of Class (1973). But she did not appear in person to collect due to work engagements. In 1971, she grabbed BAFTA Award for Sunday Bloody Sunday in the best actress category.
Despite her awards and achievements, Glenda did many notable performances, like Queen of Scots, Mary, Hedda, The Incredible Sarah, and Hopscotch. Even she also won Emmy Awards twice for her role as Queen Elizabeth. And received British TV Academy Award and International Emmy Award for the Best Actress for Elizabeth Is Missing (2019) performance.
Overall, Glenda Jackson left the world at 87, but her achievements and contributions will always remain constant.
