GKIDS has acquired the theatrical, home video, and digital rights for the anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga Dandadan, which blends paranormal mystery, battle elements, and romantic comedy.
This marks GKIDS’ first venture into handling a first-run series, differentiating from their usual focus on retrospective titles.
The company plans to share more details soon and has released an English-subtitled trailer to promote the series.
The acquisition signifies a new direction for GKIDS, expanding their portfolio to include current anime series. Fans of the manga can look forward to experiencing Dandadan across various platforms, with GKIDS ensuring its wide distribution.

The anime adaptation of Dandadan will premiere in Japan this October on TBS and MBS’s Super Animeism TURBO programming block.
Netflix will stream the series worldwide, and Crunchyroll will also provide streaming, listing the anime under the title DAN DA DAN.
The main cast includes Shion Wakayama as Momo Ayase, Natsuki Hanae as Okarun, Mayumi Tanaka as Turbo-Granny, and Kazuya Nakai as Alien Serpo.
Directed by Fūga Yamashiro at Science SARU, with scripts supervised and written by Hiroshi Seko, the anime features a talented production team.
Composer kensuke ushio will score the music, Naoyuki Onda is designing the characters, and Yoshimichi Kameda is responsible for the design of aliens and supernatural entities.
Dandadan follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult enthusiast.
Their adventure begins after Momo saves Okarun from bullies, leading to a debate about the existence of ghosts and aliens Momo believes in ghosts but not aliens, while Okarun believes in aliens but not ghosts.
To settle their disagreement, they each investigate locations tied to their beliefs, only to encounter overwhelming paranormal phenomena.
Momo discovers her hidden powers, and Okarun gains a curse-based ability, pushing them to face these new dangers together, sparking a unique bond.
The manga, written by Yukinobu Tatsu, is serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service, with the 14th volume released in April.
Viz Media publishes the English version, with the seventh volume available as of April. Dandadan combines elements of occult battles, adolescence, and a budding romance, creating an engaging and supernatural storyline.
