A First Look at the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime
Fans have finally gotten their first official look at the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime. During Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, Crunchyroll shared the anime’s first character visuals, offering an early glimpse of how Sucker Punch Productions’ popular multiplayer experience is being brought to television.
The adaptation was first announced in January 2025 through a partnership between Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions. At the time, only a teaser visual was released, leaving fans waiting more than a year for a closer look at the project.
The newly revealed artwork marks the first major visual update since that announcement. Although Crunchyroll has yet to announce a specific release date, the anime is still scheduled to premiere sometime in 2027.
The Four Legendary Warrior Classes
Instead of adapting Jin Sakai’s story from the original Ghost of Tsushima game, the anime is based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the cooperative multiplayer mode that introduced an entirely new supernatural setting inspired by Japanese folklore.
The first character visuals highlight the game’s four playable classes: Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, and Assassin. Each poster showcases the distinct armor, weapons, and fighting style that made these characters popular with players.
Early reactions have praised the artwork’s dramatic presentation. Featuring dark backgrounds with bold red accents, the visuals emphasize the mysterious and mythological atmosphere that sets Legends apart from the main game.
The Creative Team Behind the Anime
The adaptation brings together several well-known names from the anime industry. Studio Kamikaze Douga, known for Batman Ninja and Sand Land, is handling the animation, while Takanobu Mizuno serves as director after previously working on Star Wars: Visions.
Series composition is being written by Gen Urobuchi, whose credits include Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, and Psycho-Pass. Character and creature designs are being created by Takashi Okazaki, who is helping bring the world of Japanese folklore to the screen.
The music is being produced by Sony Music, with a soundtrack expected to blend traditional Japanese instruments and orchestral compositions. Together, the creative team aims to capture both the action and supernatural atmosphere of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.
A New Chapter for the Ghost of Tsushima Franchise
Unlike the original Ghost of Tsushima, which focused on the Mongol invasion of Japan, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends embraces supernatural legends filled with Oni, spirits, and mythical creatures. The anime will follow this fantasy-inspired direction rather than retelling Jin Sakai’s journey.
The Legends mode first launched in October 2020 as a free multiplayer expansion to the original game and quickly became popular for its cooperative gameplay and folklore-inspired storytelling. Its success made it a natural choice for an anime adaptation.
With a 2027 release window, the anime joins the growing Ghost of Tsushima franchise alongside the upcoming live-action film and other multimedia projects. As more trailers and casting announcements are released, fans can expect a closer look at what promises to be one of the most anticipated video game anime adaptations in the coming years.
