Yet Gege Akutami’s signature series has a knack for captivating devotees, stirring their imaginations, and cementing their investment even amidst heartbreaking moments like tragic character deaths or baffling story developments.
All followers ponder what fate has in store for beloved protagonists like Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro before the saga’s end.
While Akutami has mapped out an ending, they have confessed bewilderment at times over the wandering course of their own creation. This candor highlights how even the mangaka struggles to unravel all the mysteries woven into Jujutsu Kaisen’s fabric.
Yet this same marvelous complexity retains our intrigue.

Yet Akutami themself confessed last December they aim to wrap up the series before 2025’s end, underscoring their serious intentions to soon resolve long-running arcs.
Still, current in-progress storylines have strayed so wildly that even the mangaka admits confusion over where the narrative is headed at times. Though the destination is decided, the route there promises to be a thrilling ride.
Gege Akutami’s Humble Acceptance of the Kobayashi Manga Award
When accepting the prestigious Kobayashi Manga Award last year for Jujutsu Kaisen, creator Gege Akutami acknowledged feeling directionless over the series’ winding narrative despite its popularity. As @JJK_Mya reported via Twitter, Akutami thanked passionate fans in their acceptance speech, admitting candid uncertainty over recent story developments while reaffirming commitment to meeting reader expectations.
Specifically, Akutami confessed:
“I ain’t really know where this manga is headed lately, but I’ll do my best to live up to the readers who enjoy my work every week and endure alongside the characters on their chaotic journey.”
Though honored as authorities vote Jujutsu Kaisen among 2021’s best manga, even the mangaka themself grapple with unraveling the ever-more-complex plot. Yet they strive to immerse fans in the action and intrigue through expressive illustration.
Wherever the saga’s course leads, Akutami vows to navigate it with their loyal audience in mind.
Though creator Gege Akutami has divulged Jujutsu Kaisen’s conclusion to their editor, their admitted disorientation over the winding plot suggests they may alter significant details along the way there.
Exactly what developments perplex even the mangaka remain a mystery to fans, who speculate over story arcs and character fates Akutami themself find convoluted.
Supporters anxiously hope this disarray will not detrimentally impact the series’ coherence or dimensionality.
Yet Akutami’s candor also intimates their creative process is more organic than scripted, allowing room for new directions dictated by imaginative whims rather than rigid outlines.
Perhaps this flexibility will infuse fresh intrigue into the complex narrative.
Wherever the storyline meanders next, devotees trust their skilled guide to shepherd Jujutsu Kaisen toward a satisfying resolution, though the erratic path there may toss and turn as wildly as a cursed spirit.
They can only theorize what surprises Akutami has in store before fans glimpse the climactic finale.
More About Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji Itadori leads an ordinary high school life in Sendai until a fateful incident exposes him to the world of curses and sorcery. On his grandfather’s dying wish to “help others” and “die surrounded by people”, Yuji swallows a cursed talisman to save his friend Megumi Fushiguro, a young jujutsu sorcerer.
This act leads Yuji to become the unwitting host of Ryomen Sukuna, an immensely powerful and malevolent curse.
Faced with immediate execution by jujutsu authorities, maverick sorcerer Satoru Gojo intervenes to propose an unorthodox arrangement – postponing Yuji’s death sentence to train him to consume Sukuna’s 20 fingers, permanently destroying the curse.
Meanwhile, sinister cursed spirits like Mahito and resurrected dark sorcerer Suguru Geto secretly plot catastrophic attacks on the jujutsu society.
Under Gojo’s guidance, Yuji trains alongside fellow first-years Megumi and Nobara Kugisaki, struggling to control the murderous Sukuna. During a disastrous mission, the curse briefly assumes full possession of Yuji’s body, forcing his sacrifice to end their shared life.
Yet Sukuna defiantly revives his host, newly intrigued by Megumi’s potential. Aware of assassination plots, Gojo hides Yuji’s resurrection to continue his training.
