The future of Megumi Fushiguro in the current Jujutsu Kaisen storyline remains unclear and concerning. After enduring immense harm at the hands of Sukuna, who has taken control of his body, Megumi’s survival is questionable.
Especially after Sukuna transformed into his ancient form following the intense battle with Satoru Gojo, leaving fans to wonder if Megumi is even still alive.
There was some relief for fans in chapter 249 when a plan to rescue Megumi was revealed, suggesting he has endured thus far.
MEGUMI WILL START THE MERGER?
What if they really defeat Sukuna and save Megumi and he starts the merger?
He could do it a bit like Eren because he hates everyone or because of Kenjaku’s will inherited.

However, a new fan theory proposes that even if he survives, Megumi may end up deciding the fate of the world catastrophically.
There is speculation he could initiate a fusion between humanity and the heavenly being Tengen, similar to Eren Yeager’s destruction of humanity in Attack on Titan.
While Megumi’s circumstances are perilous and his role remains uncertain, fans cling to the hope that he can somehow be saved.
Yet there is now trepidation that his actions, willing or not, may end up impacting the world on a devastating scale. His path ahead is a precarious one, and the destiny of many may hinge on where it leads.
The Dark Potential of Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen
Before his defeat by Yuta Okkotsu, Kenjaku set in motion a concerning chain of events regarding Megumi Fushiguro. He bestowed the authority to initiate the fusion of Tengen and Japan’s population to Megumi, which now rests in the hands of Sukuna occupying his body.
The tide seemed to turn with the emergence of Yuta’s Domain and Yuji Itadori preparing his Soul Swap to rip Sukuna from Megumi. Though this offered some hope, Sukuna remains an intimidating foe to overcome.
However, even if the sorcerers manage to separate them and defeat Sukuna, a fan theory suggests Megumi’s shattered psyche may lead him to unleash the merger anyway.
His trauma could drive him down a dark path similar to Eren Yeager, who brought annihilation upon most of humanity for his own motives.
While the theory is unconfirmed, it raises a troubling prospect – that even if freed from Sukuna, Megumi could still determine the fate of many lives in his damaged state.
His role remains complex and uncertain as the story hurtles towards a climactic conclusion.
For context, in Jujutsu Kaisen the “merger” refers to fusing all humans in Japan with the heavenly entity Tengen, likely ending the world.
This would combine everyone into a single being, spreading negative emotions rapidly. It could create an extremely dangerous new entity surpassing even Sukuna’s threat.
For this theory to hold weight, Megumi’s immense suffering while Sukuna controls his body must be considered. Megumi originally sought to save his comatose sister Tsumiki from a mysterious curse.
However, while possessing Megumi, Sukuna deliberately killed Tsumiki during the Culling Game as part of breaking Megumi’s spirit to overtake him. Tsumiki was herself possessed by the ancient sorcerer Yorozu at the time.
This tremendous trauma and the loss of his sister may play a role if Megumi somehow triggers the merger, whether intentionally or not.
After enduring Sukuna’s atrocities, his psyche could be far too damaged, leaving him vulnerable to being driven down a dark path. Though unconfirmed, the theory provokes thought about the complex motivations and fragility of Megumi’s state.
Megumi Fushiguro’s Path to Destruction
Sukuna has inflicted immense trauma on Megumi while controlling him, which may break his spirit entirely. Not only did Sukuna kill Tsumiki, but he also utilized Megumi’s body and shikigami to kill his mentor, Gojo, who had saved him from the Zenin clan.
The loss of two pivotal people in such a violating way could shatter Megumi.
As the theory suggests, if freed from Sukuna, Megumi may be left in an unstable state of mind, filled with anger and hatred. This could potentially drive him to initiate the catastrophic Tengen merger in Japan.
Much like Yuji feels responsible for Sukuna’s Shibuya victims, Megumi may feel the weight of Gojo and Tsumiki’s deaths at his own unwilling hand.
Having lost his only family and the teacher who gave him purpose, Megumi could feel devoid of meaning and bring about the end for humanity. This aligns with his previous belief that someone saved could still kill later.
Despite the sorcerers’ efforts to defeat Sukuna and rescue Megumi, the pain he has endured may have irrevocably changed him.
