2018 saw the release of The Christmas Chronicles, an American comedy Christmas film directed by Clay Kaytis based on a screenplay by Matt Lieberman. Kurt Russell, Judah Lewis, Darby Camp, Lamorne Morris, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Oliver Hudson are among the film’s cast members.
It is the first movie in the film series The Christmas Chronicles. Produced by Wonder Worldwide and 1492 Pictures, the movie debuted on Netflix on November 22, 2018. The story revolves around Kate and Teddy, two kids who see Santa Claus in their house and hop onto his reindeer-drawn sleigh.
But, they unintentionally cause the sleigh to crash, losing the presents. It is up to the kids and Santa to save Christmas as Christmas morning draws near by properly delivering every gift.
After a fight over her husband Doug’s passing, widow Claire Pierce struggles to keep her family together in Lowell, Massachusetts, around Christmas 2018. He was a fireman who passed away at work.
Teddy, their son, has turned into a car burglar after losing his Christmas spirit. Nonetheless, Kate, his younger sister, maintains it and still believes in Santa Claus. After filming him robbing one, she threatens to show Claire, but she later retracts her threat. Rather, she informs her that Teddy broke a picture frame.
Teddy is left in charge when Claire is called in to work on Christmas Eve. Kate is watching vintage family Christmas videos when she sees an arm emerge from the fireplace. She persuades Teddy to assist in proving it by threatening to destroy the tape because she thinks it’s Santa. They installed a hidden camera and a tripwire.
Later, when Kate wakes up, she finds Santa in the living room. They follow him, though, as he flees to the roof. To get a better look, she hides in his sleigh, and Teddy reluctantly follows. The children accompany Santa as he rides off. Kate shows up, startling Santa and the reindeer and causing him to lose control of the sleigh.
Filming Locations
While most of The Christmas Chronicles is set in Lowell, Massachusetts, and Chicago, Illinois, it was primarily filmed in Toronto, at Pinewood Studios and other locations around the city.
Given that some of the film’s locations are unmistakably in Canada, Canadians will enjoy this movie. In this movie, Canada looked amazing in every scene, whether it was an automobile chase, a jail sentence, or a heartfelt exchange between two characters!
Santa Claus crashes his sled in Chicago in the opening scene of the movie. Filming for the scene took place in Hamilton, Ontario. When Santa chases his reindeer, he does so in a Dodge Challenger peeling through the streets of Downtown Toronto!
You’ll see several stores along Bloor St. W., including Tiffany & Co. and Louis Vuitton. The Rexall Pharmacy on the corner of Yonge St. and Richmond is also on display, as well as the Elgin & Winter Garden and Pantages tents on Yonge St. Louis.
As Santa continues to chase the reindeer, you can see him making hard turns at Bay and Bloor, as well as Cumberland and Bay. Kate Pierce finds some escaped reindeer in a parking lot at Pearl St. Peter’s. The Windsor Arms Hotel is also visible as the car chase in Yorkville comes to an end. The police catch up with Santa Claus at Temperance St., where you could see Cloud Gardens in the background.
Cathedral Church of St. James: St. James on King St. E. in Toronto, Ontario, is the church where Teddy and Kate are seen sharing a moment. Calgary and Vancouver skylines: In the film, the skylines of Calgary, Alberta, and Vancouver, British Columbia, can be seen when the children of Santa and Pierce deliver gifts.
The Gate of St. James Nick’s Place: In this Christmas adventure film, Santa Claus and the kids make one of their first stops there in an attempt to find a ride to their destination. In Etobicoke, Ontario, an Irish pub by the name of St James’s Gate served the film.
The story takes us to the stunning Riviera Maya in Mexico at one point, but the majority of this joyful movie was shot in the studios close to Vancouver. Without a doubt, the decision to send half of the crew to the Caribbean rather than stay in Canada with a steaming cup of tea and rely on green screens and virtual sets was a wise one for the filmmakers.
