On the Anthony Anderson hosted 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, the cast of Fox’s Ally McBeal was seen reunited. Calista has stepped up the stage to present the award to Kieran Culkin for his outstanding performance in the drama series ‘Succession”.
As Flockhart came up on stage, she gave a flashback to the audience of her lawyer character from the drama series “Ally McBeal” as she recreated the famous bathroom fantasy dance scene of the series. Further joined by her co-stars of the same show, they made their way to the center of Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre’s stage to present the award.
The reunion of ‘Ally McBeal’ casts
At the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, Calista Flockhart and her co-stars from the drama series ‘Ally McBeal’ reunited on the Peacock Theatre’s stage.
Flockhart had appeared on the stage to present an award, but prior to that, she recreated the show’s bathroom set with the Ally McBeal theme song “Searchin’ My Soul” by Vonda Shepherd being played in the background.
As Flockhart (59) starts recreating the scene, she looks at herself in the mirror and says, “I had to drink water; I have to take my Spanx off; I have to put my dress back on. Whoa! girl, you look good,” Ally McBeal, aka Flockhart, said during the scene at the time.
Her character was of a powerful and hot mess lawyer who was terrified of how she would work alongside her ex-husband whom she has not gotten over yet, along with sharing the same workplace with his wife.
Soon her own scene recreation turned into a reunion on the stage as Flockhart was joined by her co-stars from the series, Greg Germann, Peter MacNicol, and Gill Bellows. They came stalling from the bathroom, cuing up the famous fantasy dance of the show. Being led by Flockhart, the group made their way to the center of Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre’s stage to present an award.
After they recreated the scene and reached their required destination on the stage, Flockhart said, “I loved working with Peter, Gill, and Greg, and I still do. The entire Ally McBeal cast was so talented and magical, and so was the show, created by the brilliant, 11-time Emmy winner David E. Kelly.
She added, “Groundbreaking, revolutionary, introductions to a dancing baby and unisex bathrooms, Ally McBeal defied convention with humor and humanity.” Flockhart presented the award to the lead of the drama series Succession, Kieran Culkin, for his outstanding performance in his role.
The David E. Kelly-created drama series Ally McBeal ran for five seasons on Fox from 1997 to 2002. The series portrays the personal and professional life of Calista Flockhart aka Ally McBeal, the lawyer who works at Cage and Fish, a Boston law firm. The other David-created spectacular shows include Big Little Lies and Doogie Howser, M.D.
The last time many of the cast members of Ally McBeal came together was during the 2015 TV Land Awards; ahead of that, the cast reunited at Monday’s Emmy Awards. In 2022, there were reports surfacing that the sequel series to the late 90s show was in early development at ABC.
The series was nominated 14 times, including Emmy Awards, Globe Awards, Guild Awards, TCA Awards, TV Land Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and Peabody Awards.
In 1998 and 1999, Ally McBeal won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for A Comedy Series. Tracey Ullman had won an Emmy for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (Ally McBeal) in 1999. Also in the same year, the series won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series and last, in 2000, a CSA for Best Casting in episodic comedy.
The dramedy series starred Courtney Thorne-Smith, Greg German, Lisa Nicole Carson, Jane Krakowski, Vonda Shepherd, Portia De Rossi, Lucy Liu, Peter MacNicol, and Gill Bellows.
Other Hollywood well-astonished stars like Robert Downey Jr., James Marsden, Regina Hall, and Hayden Panettiere also made an appearance on the show during its later seasons.
Host Anderson said, “We are paying tribute to iconic shoes that have changed the scope of television and entertainment by being on the air.”
He mentioned that they’re going to be paying homage to them, having a lot of cast members come back as themselves as their characters; he added, “and there’s going to be a little interchange between me and then in the sets of their shows.”
