This fall, “For All Mankind,” an American science fiction drama series, will be returning to television with a brand-new season that promises to thrill audiences. If you found out that there is an alternate reality that exists, but you are unaware of it and that it will eventually impact your life, how would you respond?
The show centers on an alternate history in which the Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov becomes the first person to set foot on the moon. This event ignites the U.S. quest to land on the moon after NASA is horrified that someone else accomplished the feat before them.
The show, which was created by Ronald D. Moore and Matt Wolpert, starred Joel Kinnaman as NASA’s top astronaut, Edward; Michael Dorman as Gordon, Ed’s best buddy and fellow astronaut; and Sarah Jones as Tracey Stevens, Gordo’s wife who also went on to become an astronaut.
Karen Baldwin, Ed’s spouse and the proprietor of Outpost Tavern, is portrayed by Shantel VanSanten. Jodi Balfour portrays Ellen Wilson, Wrenn Schmidt portrays NASA engineer Margo Madison, Sonya Walger portrays Molly Cobb, a female Nixon member, and Krys Marshall portrays lead astronaut Danielle Poole.
Recap
In “Crossing the Line,” which begins on Mars, no concessions have been made as of day seven of the Helios Worker Strike. The workers want the asteroid to be mined in Mars’ orbit and equitable compensation. In exchange for their laborious efforts, Danielle and the others can only provide retraining.
However, time is running out, so the workers must cooperate to avoid losing the chance to seize the asteroid permanently. However, it doesn’t appear that the impasse will be resolved very soon. Irina and Eli talk about the Earth strike back.
Irina proposes that they bypass the laborers and allow the astronauts to complete the tasks required to restart the asteroid capture operation. Eli hesitates for a while before agreeing. Danielle receives this plan, and the astronauts get ready to activate the fuel generators on their own.
The employees at Helios are aware of this development and are concerned about its ramifications. They worry that they aren’t getting paid while the strike is going on for too long. Ed and Sam admonish them to be firm and follow the strategy. As the astronauts are ready to turn on the generators again, they find that the Helios employees have been dishonest.
The airlocks have been blocked, and all of the space suits have been thrown out. Palmer suggests going beneath the surface via a tunnel. This avoids the immediate hurdles and leads them directly and safely into the generator rooms. The next day, Kelly, Alex, and Dev arrive on Mars.
After a lifetime apart, Ed is at last reunited with his daughter and grandson, but upon his arrival, Alex declines to hug his grandfather. At supper, this discomfort persists. Danielle then confronts Dev, demanding an immediate end to the strikes.
Back on Earth, Margo receives an order to travel to America for talks. She refuses to go, even though she will have diplomatic immunity and be able to go there without incident. She is nearly coerced into going by Irina. Eli is urged by Aleida to prevent Margo from continuing with her journey since she has no intention of cooperating with her ever again.
Preview
Dev and Ed have similar goals for Happy Valley: they both want to succeed and spend the rest of their lives on Mars. They appear to agree on both of these points and to bolster their desires, and they intend to take the asteroid jointly.
Together, Dev and Ed will challenge the M-7 countries and take the asteroid out from under them. Though I’m not sure how they intend to complete such a large endeavor, Dev usually manages to find a way. Happy Valley will not stop Kelly and Ed from fighting. Further tension will result from Miles and Ilya crossing paths again.
Tensions between Margo and Aleida will rise on Earth in the interim. Given that Margo is viewed as a traitor by her own country, there may even be an attempt at her murder by a protestor.
