To a fellow commercial actor who was being harassed online, Flo from Progressive gave words of encouragement. Known for playing Lily in AT&T’s national advertisements, Milana Vayntrub encountered offensive remarks on social media in 2020 when her character reappeared in new commercials.
In a recent profile, the New York Times highlighted this stage of Vayntrub’s career and mentioned that several of her supporters included AT&T and Courtney Stephanie, the actor who plays Flo from Progressive.
In the middle of the barrage of offensive remarks, Vayntrub disclosed that Courtney had called her to show sympathy and lend a sympathetic ear during the trying time. Vayntrub expressed her gratitude for the support and noted that it gave her a sense of having people on her side.
Milana Vayntrub responded to the attention
Vayntrub responded to the attention by sharing an Instagram story on December 29 in response to the resurgence of interest in her life during that time.
“Hello, brand-new fans. The events that are the subject of the articles that brought you here occurred three years ago,” she explained. “I’m doing OK. I appreciate your concern. Sincerely. Time, therapy, and family and friend love have all played a part in the healing process. We’re doing well.”
At the age of 26, the actor made his first attempt at auditioning for a national commercial in which he was to play an AT&T store employee. After landing the part of Lily, she kept playing the character in commercials until the campaign ended in 2017. She then made the switch to a career in front of the camera, concentrating on directing instead of acting.
Milana Vayntrub and a colleague came up with a creative idea to revive Lily
Amidst the pandemic in 2020, Vayntrub and a colleague came up with a creative idea to revive Lily, but in a work-from-home environment. Vayntrub assumed the director’s chair, having her own house used for filming. But as the months went by and the character’s comeback proceeded, the general public’s perception of Lily deteriorated.
Vayntrub’s body was the subject of numerous offensive and derogatory remarks on social media. Some even called her “Mommy Milkers,” a derogatory term that implied something about her chest. The New York Times reports that inappropriate comments, including the posting of emojis of glasses of milk, flooded the comment sections of Vayntrub’s personal page and AT&T’s social media posts.
When the incident was reported by Insider in August 2020, Vayntrub allegedly addressed the criticism during an Instagram Live session, making it clear that he was not agreeing to any of it. All of this is not what I want.”
AT&T supported Milana Vayntrub in addition to Courtney
According to The New York Times, AT&T supported Vayntrub in addition to Courtney. Taking swift action in response to comments made on social media, the company declared that they “don’t condone sexual harassment of employees in the workplace or on our social channels.”
They issued a statement denouncing the offensive remarks and arranged for the actor to speak with a committed Instagram team in order to resolve and lessen the problem.
