The second leg of Netflix’s Firefly Lane is right around the corner with its premiere landing this week! The sisterhood dramedy starring Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) is back to keep telling us the heart-warming tale of these two women as they face the many challenges in their personal lives.
From family, to work and life, Firefly Lane always manages to give a message that there’s something else coming along the way, so everyone must be waiting to learn what’s up with Kate’s health, and also find out what is going with Tully after that post-credit scene that teased us a Johnny in a suit. All in all, Firefly Lane never ceases to give us a jolt of drama and happiness with the great performances of these two actresses.
Firefly Lane Season 2 Episode 9 Recap
Before I start, I don’t know if you noticed, but most of these episodes have the same title as some pop/rock hit songs from the 1990s, this episode is titled “Hart Shaped Box”, and it’s an evident nod to Nirvana’s song. Setting that pop culture “did you know” moment aside, our episode begins with kate all hyped up on her trip with Theo to Europe, but things go a bit sour for her because she got some nasty burns on her backside after spending a bit too much time on a tanning bed (ouch!).
Before Kate leaves, Johnny pops up and gives her a gift, wishes her a good trip and the best of time with Theo. And that makes Kate have second thoughts about that romantic Euro-escapade and starts wondering if Johnny is trying to make a point there, so she consults with Tully the Bestie and she tells Kate to go on the trip and stop wasting her thoughts with Johnny.
Tully
Tully starts to reminisce that time her mom was intoxicated when her parole officer was on their way to see her. Turns out that she and her mom clean up the house and try to get rid of all the drugs, but a dude is too high on god who knows what and Tully and her mom can’t get that guy’s off the couch, so they drag him into a closet for temporary storage. When the cop comes over for the visit things go smoothly but Tully realizes that her mom is a drug addict failure of a woman.
The 2000s
For Thanksgiving, Kate goes to her parents and Tully screws up her dinner with her mom, so they end up ordering a pizza pie. What a waste! But at Kate’s things not only are gourmet but also romantic because Johnny wants to marry Kate (again). Kate says no, and the dinner goes smoothly until Kate finds out that her dad died after dinner watching football on the TV.
After that, Kate starts a writing class and Tully learns some cooking skills. Another year, and another Thanksgiving where Tully actually makes a good Thanksgiving dinner and has Cloud and friends over, and in that dinner she gifts the house to Cloud.
Health Concerns
On December, Johnny asks Kate to marry him and she accepts, but the happiness quickly fades because while checking herself out in the mirror, Kate notices a large, nasty rash on the side of her chest and breasts. So, she goes to the doctor to have it checked out, and it’s a nasty, rare form of breast cancer, leaving us wondering what will become of her ahead of the second leg of the season.
