A short new Korean drama, Finland Papa, released only this weekend with a heartfelt concept and sincere message. Everyone in the world is dealing with some kind of sad event or unhappiness that they cannot come out of. Sometimes, you just might find a right person, or thing, or job that might do the trick for you, helping you out of your negative state.
Similarly, Finland Papa revolves around the lives of such protagonists who are entrapped in their sorrow, attempting to continue life even in a trance like state caught in their grief. Strangely, a queer café becomes the safe haven for four such people who come together to operate and run the concern while sharing open moments of warmth and comfort that turn into healing sessions.

Original show of Cinema Heaven, Finland papa is the directorial work of Park Soo Min and written by Won Young Jin. This homey drama is a perfect slice-of-life story that can be enjoyed with family or alone. The star cast includes Kim Bo Ra and Kim Woo Seok in the lead roles with Hwang Seok Jeong and Jung Min Seong playing the strong supportive characters.

Finland Papa- Synopsis
Finland Papa is a heartwarming story about healing people as four unique personalities gather in the establishment as workers and share precious moments with each other. It is a soothing experience for them as they open up and try to let go of their sorrow to let themselves heal with time and support.
The café is owned by an anonymous owner and this mysterious person falls in love with the newly recruited female worker- Lee Yu Ri. Yu Ri’s being had collapsed with the death of her beloved grandmother who more than family for her. Although depressed, she tries to come out of her heartbroken state continuing her life in a new direction in which first comes finding a new job.
Interviewing at Finland Papa is anything but like a traditional interview as Yu Ri is invited to a meal and shared casual talks with. After the meal, she is selected for the job, just like that!
Yu Ri is perplexed when she comes to know about the elusive ‘papa’ of the café whom even the oldest staff workers have no idea about. It also increases her curiosity when she learns about the queer rule of the establishment- the staff has to take on ‘family names’ and eat meals together to maintain ‘family’s harmony.’
Finland Papa- Story Recap
The staff at a cozy café named Finland Papa is joined by a young 20-year-old member Lee Yu Ri, who is looking to distract herself from her pain by finding a job. The format of the drama changes from past to present, comparing the heroine’s state when she was younger and to how she is now. Her used to be comfortable life is left tinged with pain with her grandmother’s demise.
In the flashshop backs to the past Yu Ri is often seen hanging out with her high-school friends, Baek Woo Hyun and Ji Yong Joon. In the the scene of the present, Yong Joon is back to his hometown during college break and comes to visit Yu Ri. The two recall their old memories, sharing the nostalgia that drowns them in melancholy.
Not long after, Yu Ri decides to get a job for herself to get out of the sorrowful state she is trapped in. As Yu Ri arrives at Finland Papa to go through the due process for joining as a staff member, she is greeted by an explosive scene of the ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ of the shop arguing with their ‘kid’ Toto who leaves in a ruffled state. When noticed, Yuri is invited to a meal and at the end of the delicious food is her offer letter to joining the café.
As more scenes unfold, Yu Ri’s needs are aptly cared for as somehow mysteriously Finland Papa seems to be the answer to all her problems.
