Square Enix is aiming to give the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy a complete ending with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, the upcoming JRPG will conclude the remake saga within the base game, ensuring players won’t have to purchase DLC to experience the full story.
Speaking in a recent interview, Hamaguchi explained that while downloadable content remains a possibility, it would not extend the game’s main narrative. Instead, any future expansion would focus on standalone character stories.
Main Story Will End in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation
In an interview with Automaton, Hamaguchi reassured fans that the development team is committed to delivering a definitive ending.
He stated:
“The story will be concluded within the main game. We’re serious about concluding the series with FF7 Revelation, and we’re proceeding with development with that goal in mind.”
The comments suggest players won’t encounter a situation where the trilogy’s conclusion is locked behind paid post-launch content, a concern that occasionally arises with major RPG releases.
Although nothing has been officially announced, Hamaguchi revealed that the team has discussed the possibility of creating DLC similar to Episode INTERmission, the Yuffie-focused expansion released for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

He explained that any expansion would likely “create a kind of spin-off focused on a specific character that depicts their untold stories,” rather than continuing the events after the ending.
Hamaguchi also acknowledged growing fan expectations for additional content, saying:
“I feel that, at this point, both the media and the fan community are expecting a DLC to come. That being said, things haven’t crystallized yet, so we can’t certainly say.”
For now, Square Enix remains focused on completing the trilogy. If DLC eventually moves forward, it will likely expand the world through character-driven stories instead of altering the ending of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
