Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that the upcoming RPG will feature a more accessible Platinum trophy than Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The change comes after Square Enix saw how demanding Rebirth’s completion requirements were for players.
Only around 2.6% of players have unlocked Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Platinum trophy, with Hamaguchi previously explaining that the difficult requirements were intentional. The development team wanted players to experience and master the game’s extensive collection of content.
Revelation Will Take a Different Approach
Speaking with Anime News Network, Hamaguchi acknowledged that the team underestimated how strongly players would pursue the Platinum trophy in Rebirth. While he stopped short of calling the decision a mistake, he admitted that the response from fans left the development team with regrets.
“For Rebirth’s platinum trophy – well, for Rebirth in general – there’s so much to do,”
Hamaguchi said.
“We wanted to make people go through all this content and perfect it.”

He added that battle director Teruki Endo also saw the reaction from players and reportedly said,
“Oh, no! I feel bad – I have regrets.”
That experience has influenced how the team is approaching Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Rather than simply making challenges harder for the sake of difficulty, Hamaguchi says the goal is to make combat more enjoyable.
“I think that’s one thing that we’ve learned from Rebirth: to make the battles themselves enjoyable rather than just challenging,”
he explained to Anime News Network.
Hamaguchi expects a significant increase in the number of players who complete Revelation’s Platinum trophy. He estimates that around 20% of players or potentially more could earn it.
“In comparison, for Revelation, the platinum trophy will be easier to get,”
Hamaguchi said.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The third entry will continue Cloud and his companions’ journey while expanding the scope of the remake trilogy.
