Netflix Greenlights Sakamoto Days Season 2 Before Season 1 Even Wraps Up

It’s official the world’s most lovable retired assassin is suiting up again. Just three months after the anime finished airing its first season, the franchise confirmed the production of its second season during Jump Festa 2026.

The announcement, which dropped on December 20, 2025, sent the anime community into a frenzy, and for good reason. Netflix officially confirmed the renewal, stating that the fan-favorite hitman turned convenience store owner would be returning for another season.

Alongside the announcement, a new trailer and key visual were released, with the upcoming season expected to focus on the Japan Clear Creation (JCC) the elite academy that trains aspiring hitmen and served as the alma mater of protagonist Taro Sakamoto.

To understand why this renewal matters, you have to look at the numbers. Sakamoto Days was Netflix’s global most-watched anime in the first half of 2025, garnering 24.4 million views according to the platform’s mid-year report.

By the time the season wrapped, the series had accumulated over 106 million viewing hours and ranked in Netflix’s global top ten for 14 consecutive weeks between January and September 2025. The manga’s popularity exploded thanks to its Netflix release, rising from 7 million copies in circulation in December 2024 to 15 million by August 2025.

That kind of momentum is nearly unheard of for a manga adaptation, signaling that Sakamoto Days has tapped into something genuinely special for both anime veterans and newcomers alike.

What to Expect From Sakamoto Days Season 2

Season 1 introduced Taro Sakamoto once considered the greatest hitman of all time who retired after falling in love with Aoi, a convenience store clerk.

The two married, had a daughter, and settled into a quiet life running a modest store, but Sakamoto could never fully escape the violent world he left behind.

Season 2 promises to pick up right where the chaos left off, with familiar faces including Shin Asakura and Order members Yoichi Nagumo and Shishiba prominently featured in the new teaser. The JCC arc, which dives into the academy that shaped Sakamoto into the deadly force he once was, is set to be a central storyline promising deeper world-building and some of the most high-stakes action the series has delivered yet.

Season 1 ended having adapted up to chapter 75 of the manga, setting the stage for the JCC Infiltration arc that Season 2 will explore. With over 229 published manga chapters and only 75 adapted so far, there is no shortage of source material to fuel what could be several more seasons to come.

No official release date has been announced yet. If production is already underway, Sakamoto Days could return as early as 2026, though 2027 is considered more realistic given how long anime production typically takes. Beyond the anime itself, a live-action film adaptation is also set to premiere in Japan on April 29, 2026.

For now, fans have the new teaser trailer and key visual to tide them over and the unmistakable promise that Sakamoto’s days of heart-pounding action and convenience store chaos are far from over.
